The Future of Work: A Manifesto — on management — Medium

The Future of Work: A Manifesto — on management — Medium | Learning Organizations | Scoop.it
This manifesto is about the future of work in a post-Cluetrain world.
Margaret Driscoll, Learning Organization Librarian's insight:
Work matters. We want work to suck less—for everyone, not just the few lucky ones. The distinction between “work” and “life” is artificial and a barrier to leveraging both the power of the individual and that of the organization.Work is the expending of effort for the creation of value. If there’s no effort, but it’s still considered work, it should be automated; if there’s no value, the work is pointless and wasteful.Work is the process of creating something for the purpose of human flourishing. Let’s get rid of what doesn’t do that. Work has meaning for every individual. Work involves identity.Work involves a sense of belonging. Work has meaning for the networks each individual is connected to. Work has meaning for the local community and for the global community. Work involves social responsibility.

How to bring out the leaders in your employees | Training Journal | Learning Organizations | Scoop.it

There is a current perceived lack of individual leadership amongst UK businesses, with employees around the country either unwilling or unable to step up and lead teams to enable the business to grow. This is why it is important to develop and encourage employees to take on leadership responsibilities as much as possible. If they are trained properly, they will ultimately reap the rewards just as much as the business does.

The Death Of Knowledge Work And The Rise Of 'Learning Workers'

The Death Of Knowledge Work And The Rise Of 'Learning Workers' | Learning Organizations | Scoop.it

During the past few decades we have spent a lot of time talking about knowledge workers and knowledge work. However today knowledge is nothing more than a commodity and to be the smartest guy in the room all you need access to is a smartphone. This is especially true when we consider that more “smart assistants” such as the Amazon Echo, Siri, Cortana, and IBM’s Watson enter our professional and personal lives.

6 Leadership Development Trends for 2015

6 Leadership Development Trends for 2015 | Learning Organizations | Scoop.it
Before we go on to unveil the future trends, let’s have a look at what was happening on the leadership training scene this year. Among the most innovative leadership strategies being taught all over the world was the so-called “endogenous resourcing”, standing for the myriad techniques for unlocking employees’ hidden potential.

Apart from this trend, we saw the rise of management policies that foster sustainability and a slow transition from the autocratic, control-and-command management style to its more democratic variety – both demonstrating how the human side of business has become a growing factor in the success of leadership as employed by many global brands.

Having examined the present, let’s now direct our gaze to the future – here are 6 innovative leadership development practices that we will see spreading in the upcoming year.

Empower people by making sure they're being given an opportunity to do a more challenging thing..." | Learning Organizations | Scoop.it

"I tell people that if they're sitting at their desk and it's become easy that they should be looking for somebody else to pass that down to so that they can be challenged and do things that are more difficult. If you have that culture throughout the whole firm, what ends up happening, is you're creating leaders at every level. Because once something's easy, and they can pass it down to somebody else, they're teaching, they're mentoring and then they're being given an opportunity to do a more challenging thing.".
