Visual Content marketing is not a new concept – advertising images have been around for pretty much as long as people have been buying and selling, but in these days of Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube, visual Content is being consumed on a much broader basis.

In the end, MOOCs and online programs primarily help those who are self motivated to learn, and the vast majority of these people would have figured out how to educate themselves, whether in college or on their own, regardless of whether or not online courses are available.

There need not be a dichotomy of online learning and having the personalized attention of a teacher/coach. This article, and others like it, are misguided if their point is that online education will forever remain a fantasy; they are valuable articles in that they correctly note what's limiting and/or dysfunctional now to set us on course to the new "reality" of online and blended learning being superior to traditional "brick and mortar" education.

Curation is a valuable skill for today’s learner. In a culture of content overload, members that provide great content to their audience will be recognized leaders in network communities. Optimally, we equip students to differentiate good content from bad in preparation for their further education and careers. Curating an online topic (and allowing comments) also increases self-awareness and provides additional insight from others. The nuances of sharing content and writing to an audience become much better understood through interactivity between the curator and participating audience. Via Ilkka Olander

I completely agree with this post. I fully integrated it into one of my courses last year. Students had to choose a potential future career and create a scoop.it page to help them learn about that field. Most feedback was positive. A few students still use it seven months after the grades have been turned in!

So many schools are going for the wow factor of new technology. Good education should still be our main goal. There are so many possibilities for home and school engagement, for processing and internalizing as opposed to regurgitating information, for sharing and building upon others' ideas. It is incumbent upon those who are using technology to up the ante - a smartboard is not just a new blackboard and projector together, an ipad can take students to other places and allow them to integrate their interests into the lessons and homework. Technology has the possibility to take education to the next lesson with the proper educators - not in and of itself. Delete the scoop?

It's ok Karen! Digital tools are like fruit - some we like, some work well with one's thinking framework and others don't. Hence having a wide range of options is positive (at least in my view :-)

Capture and track what you've learned or want to learn by creating 'threads' and describe the thread by selecting from list of action verbs, eg. I've read, I've completed.
