Ten Tips for Grabbing Students’ Attention With Mobile (EdSurge News)

Ten Tips for Grabbing Students’ Attention With Mobile (EdSurge News) | Learning Innovation and Technology | Scoop.it

"Today’s college students arrive on campus with an average of seven devices. Eighty percent of these students will carry and use a mobile phone during every waking hour of the day. So, how do you navigate all of this screen mayhem to reach students where they are…eyes to the screen? That’s the challenge we’re addressing at Campus Quad. Working with both top mobile engagement industry leaders and trailblazing innovators in higher education, we’re defining a framework for mobile engagement that is based on communication channels that capture students in their “always connected” environment, in real-time."

Teaching the Design Process in Makerspaces | Renovated Learning @DianaLRendina | Learning Innovation and Technology | Scoop.it
Stewart Middle Magnet is a STEM magnet school, and part of our curriculum comes from Project Lead the Way, including classes in engineering, robotics and aerospace.  The Design Process is an important part of that curriculum.  It also ties in beautifully with what we do in our makerspace.  So it made sense for me to partner up with one of our Project Lead the Way classes to teach our students about the basics of the design process.  While this was a lesson with a specific class, it could easily work with small groups, after-school clubs, or any group that you bring into your makerspace.

I think this kind of tool can be really beneficial for creating flipped learning or video orientated learning as the speaker can guide learners to various learning resources on the web. They can also embed visual support for language learners such as text and images and even write over the video as though it were a whiteboard.

Supporting Deeper Learning in the Classroom

Supporting Deeper Learning in the Classroom | Learning Innovation and Technology | Scoop.it
For today’s students to effectively compete in the global workforce, they must develop the skills, understandings, and mindsets necessary to prepare them for the careers and challenges of tomorrow. This means more than learning to read and write – it means being able to master academic content and apply that knowledge across contexts in a meaningful way.

Content is no longer king. Here are five things that are. | Learning Innovation and Technology | Scoop.it

A huge amount of what we’ve traditionally call ‘content’ in learning is actually instructional design: the pacing and variety of activities, the flow, the challenge of zeroing in on the best and most enjoyable way to help someone master a particular skill. Those elements aren’t going anywhere.

UX is king.

The problem with UX (user experience) is that customers only really notice its absence. If you absolutely nail the UX of your digital product, the only people who will congratulate you are UX nerds like me. If you mess it up, though, you’ll know about it soon enough. You’ll notice the complaints. You’ll notice the attrition. You’ll notice the churn.

Spannende consequentie voor onderwijs, als niet de vakinhoud er meer toe doet, maar wat je ermee doet, wat je ermee kunt en wat je ervaart.

1. user experience

2&3. toegankelijkheid en keuzemogelijkheden

4. kosten

5. data

Maar dan komt de toets ... interessant.

Create a quiz in PowerPoint | Learning Innovation and Technology | Scoop.it

Did you know that you can create a quiz in PowerPoint? You can create a simple quiz in PowerPoint using just hyperlinks. It’s simple because it doesn’t require any programming and you can’t grade it.

Students take the quiz in Slide Show view. When they choose the wrong answer, they go back to the question to try again. When they choose the right answer, they go to the next question.

How to Email Multiple Attachments on iPhone and iPad - GottaBeMobile

How to Email Multiple Attachments on iPhone and iPad - GottaBeMobile | Learning Innovation and Technology | Scoop.it

"Sending attachments via email is practically second nature for most computer users. Create a set of documents that need to be distributed to your colleagues an off they go as attachments. On desktops and laptops its easy to send multiple attachments. On Android and Windows Phone devices you can also easily attach multiple files to an email. On the iPhone and the iPad, not so much.

In iOS, sending multiple attachments in an email is not something for the faint of heart. The word cumbersome gets new meaning when applied to this process. In fact, for those who like or need to quickly send multiple attachments on an iOS device the lack of an easy way to do this is enough to make you wonder where all the talk about iOS devices being used for business and the enterprise comes from."

This is a fantastic idea for students to combined PBL and technology. I think this is also a way for teachers to digitally document PBL. I use an iPad and Evernote every day for school, but I never thought of it being a tool for as a future teacher. Though this idea would could only be used for a small amount of classrooms right now, I love this idea and I want to keep it in my back pocket.
