This is an important and timely document for teacher librarians worldwide. This document presents a vision-building blueprint for school communities to transform their school library into a 21C learning centre. Strengths of this document include the standards framework for building a vision, and the transitional growth continuum of indicators of success from Exploring through to Leading - this is brilliant!

This is a must read for all school library professionals and principals.

When sexting happens at the students home but the impact is felt at school - is that behavior actionable?  I'm still thinking about issues like this.

Sue Osborne's comment, June 17, 5:46 PM
My feeling is, if the relationship started at school and the students are in school together, the school (as well as students and parents) has a responsiblity to that student. Particularly if the images or scandal is being further distributed via the "schoolyard network" of peers. Once the students start sharing stuff with other students I think it becomes school and parent/home terrirtory. Because the kids are all so connected via social media the lines get blurred very quickly, which is why everyone needs to be aware and vigilant. Kids just don't seem to understand that split second decision to share someting inappropriate can ruin lives and reputations almost instantly.

Story building apps are great for development of narrative skills, which in turn are the beginnings of both conversation skills and story creating or re-telling skills.

Susan Berkowitz's curator insight, May 25, 9:39 AM

Kids develop language skills through storytelling; whether it is developing a personal narrative, creating their own story, or re-telling a story that they have read or heard. These build the basics for conversational interactions and academic success.
