Technology is advancing continously; therefore it makes sense for educational systems to keep up with technology. This should be done because its is predominately the youth who enjoy advancing with technology. Therefore if more education systems use iTunesU students will be able to learn their work efficiently since they will understand it more easily than a dull textbook. If institutions adopt this new tool it will make vast changes in both the teacher's and students's education. This tool is very easy to use and is more convenient than compiling numerous notes and books. The only downside is that iTunesU is an Apple product. Therefore only those with iPads,iPhones or any other Apple products will be able to use iTunesU. Apple products are not necessarily cheap; therefore not all institutions would be able to use this new handy tool.

Big History: David Christian Covers 13.7 Billion Years of History in 18 Minutes

Big History: David Christian Covers 13.7 Billion Years of History in 18 Minutes | Learning Happens Everywhere! | Scoop.it
Perhaps you noticed? During the past two years, the TED brand has morphed into something new.
miracletrain 夢想驛站's insight:

Big History is an emerging academic discipline which examines history scientifically from the Big Bang to the present. It examines long time frames using a multidisciplinary approach based on combining numerous disciplines from science and the humanities and explores human existence in the context of this bigger picture.It integrates studies of the cosmos, Earth, life and humanity using empirical evidence to explore cause-and-effect relations, and is taught at universities and secondary schools often using web-based interactive presentations. It is an academic movement spearheaded by historian David Christian of Australia's Macquarie University, who coined the term Big History,and is made of an "unusual coalition of scholars". While some academic historians are skeptical about its value or originality, the 20-year-old discipline appears to be poised for further growth, including an effort to make the discipline available worldwide via a project from philanthropist Bill Gates and David Christian called the Big History Project.

miracletrain 夢想驛站's insight:

After 264 presentations the epic TechCrunch Hackathon just concluded and one stood out as the winner. It is very challenging to select a winner as most of the products aim to solve different problems in varying verticals. With that said, the Spruce app created a great educational technology solution featuring Pearson APIs and the Evernote API.

The team was made up of veteran #highschoolhackers who did a great job executing on their vision to create a well designed and functioning app that makes it easier for students to improve reading comprehension and vocabulary. The app enables students to improve in these areas through integration of audio, definitions, context with sentences all from different Pearson APIs from Penguin Books and Longman Dictionary, images, and then saves words using the Evernote API so that students can reference them later.

25 Ways to Cultivate Intrinsic Motivation - InformED

25 Ways to Cultivate Intrinsic Motivation - InformED | Learning Happens Everywhere! | Scoop.it

"In the context of learning, intrinsic motivation is motivation that stems not from external factors like grades and status, but rather from genuine interest and ambition. Like altruism, it assumes no reward. But – like altruism – it is difficult to corroborate. Even if Sally, your best student, completes the Extra Credit assignment out of pure enjoyment, it doesn’t mean she isn’t expecting external rewards like approval and attention."

Does intrinsic motivation exist? This post explores this idea, clearly landing in the field of intrinsic motivation. After exploring the concept and discussing how education has changed there is a list of 25 ways we may help students cultivate this trait. A few are listed below but many more are in the post, as is a TEDtalk by Dan Pink.

* Rethink reward

* Make mastery cool

* Make students feel like education is a choice, not a requirement

* Make every student feel confident

Each of the items has additional information in the post. As you work in your classroom this year you may find yourself using some of the ideas listed in this post with your students.

MIT Will Offer MOOC Curricula, Not Just Single Courses, on edX - Wired Campus - The Chronicle of Higher Education

MIT Will Offer MOOC Curricula, Not Just Single Courses, on edX - Wired Campus - The Chronicle of Higher Education | Learning Happens Everywhere! | Scoop.it
miracletrain 夢想驛站's insight:

MOOC companies are hardly universities unto themselves, but now a provider wants to move beyond offering one-off courses.

MITx, a division of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that offers courses on the nonprofit edX’s platform, announced on Tuesday that it would soon offer special certificates to students who completed a prescribed sequence of massive open online courses from MIT. The sequences will be called XSeries.

MIT plans to offer its first XSeries sequence, Foundations of Computer Science, beginning this fall. The computer-science series will consist of seven courses that together “will cover content equivalent to two to four traditional residential courses and take between six months and two years to complete,” according to a news release.
