Adaptive eLearning - Smart Sparrow

Adaptive eLearning - Smart Sparrow | Learning Happens Everywhere! | Scoop.it

Adaptive eLearning creates the best possible learning experience for students by emulating the talents of great educators. This is achieved by using technologies that  adapt and shape teaching to the needs of the individual student.

Each student is unique, has varying levels of knowledge, and learns differently. Our research, and that of other academics, has shown that student performance improves when online educational content is personalised.

Smart Sparrow empowers teachers with an Adaptive eLearning Platform that allows them to easily create and deploy rich, interactive, and adaptive educational content using powerful online technologies. The focus of Adaptive eLearning is to provide teachers with complete control over how the content adapts to the student. We call this Pedagogical Ownership and we think it is vital to making it an effective teaching tool.

Additionally, an Adaptive eLearning Platform provides teachers with a window into their students’ learning for the lessons they’ve created. Online analytics provide actionable insights into what students know, what misconceptions they may have, and how they are interacting with content. This feature allows teachers to continuously adapt and improve their lessons.

(From the article): The most interesting conversations can delve into great detail. If you overwhelm your listeners, they will zone out from confusion or boredom. Reagan was best known for being simple and clear. Don't assume just because you understand what you're saying that your audience does. Amazing communicators find ways to simplify complex concepts without being condescending. Check in during the conversation to make sure everyone is still on board.

The Five Laws of The Content Curation Economy by Steve Rosenbaum

The Five Laws of The Content Curation Economy by Steve Rosenbaum | Learning Happens Everywhere! | Scoop.it

From Robin Good's insight:

"Steve Rosenbaum (the author of Curation Nation) strikes some pretty powerful chords that fully resonate with my vision and expectations about the future of content curation.

On the assumption that "The speed, scale, and number of distinct elements of produced content will double every 24 months." (call it Rosenbaum law) he rightly asserts that, as if there was already enough content, we are going to be literally inundated by tons of it soon..."

Runnable Wants To Become The YouTube Of Code

Runnable Wants To Become The YouTube Of Code | Learning Happens Everywhere! | Scoop.it

Excerpt from review article by TechCrunch:
"For many developers, Googling code snippets is just part of their everyday routines. Those snippets, however, are spread all over the web. The co-founders behind Runnable, saw this in their own work at Amazon and hosting companies and decided to build what they call a “YouTube of Code” – a site that allows users to discover code snippets and edit and run the code right on their sites.

What’s happening then is that, for many developers, coding is slowly becoming more about gluing together existing parts than creating something entirely from scratch. Nobody, however, has made the process of discovering code snippets really easy.

On Runnable, the six-person team has aggregated code snippets in languages ranging from PHP to Node.js, Python, JavaScript, ASP.NET and Ruby on Rail (as well as some of their frameworks) from a range of reputable sources.
The idea is to make publishing code on Runnable as easy as writing a blog post on Medium.

Besides the languages themselves, the team is also focusing on APIs and on how to use products like MySQL, MongoDB, redis and similar frontend and backend services.

One of the coolest features of Runnable, by the way, is that you can edit the code and test it right on the site..."

  • WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

The  key factors are: Learners’ age, back ground knowledge, the purpose of learning, the learners’ circumstances (employed, students, unemployed, etc…)

  • DO YOU HAVE THE COURSE CURRICULUM?

In many cases the course curriculum does exist, for example: National Curriculum, University course modules , In-house corporate training.

  • WHAT EXTERNAL PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS NEED TO BE MET?

All external examination bodies provide an exam guide or syllabus which you have to insure your course will address them.

  • WHAT IS THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT?

Would your learners attend any face to face classes? Do they access their course from home, work, or college? Do they work as a group or individuals?

Social Engineering: A Lesson In Digital Citizenship

Social Engineering: A Lesson In Digital Citizenship | Learning Happens Everywhere! | Scoop.it

"If you’re like us, the term “social engineering” may not have entered your tool kit for teaching digital citizenship. According to Wikipedia, it is the psychological manipulation to get people to divulge confidential information by building a sense of trust. In the current digital environment, it is used for the purpose of gathering information or access to data via the Internet."

Beth Dichter's curator insight, September 25, 2013 9:56 PM

When you think about teaching digital citizenship does the concept of teaching 'social engineering' come up as a topic to discuss? This post suggests that you look at this as a portion of your curriculum. Along with the infographic Hacking the Mind (shown above) there is also an embedded motion graphic, Social Engineering. With students being very active in social media it is important that they also understand social engineering, and these two resources are great tools to bring into your classroom to help them gain that understanding.

Maryalice Leister's curator insight, September 26, 2013 8:33 AM

This ties in with cyberbullying when you consider the power of social media and how social engineering  gives both those with good intentions and those whose purposes are not as golden a platform for control. Read and share!
