A Detailed History Of Social Media - Infographic

A Detailed History Of Social Media - Infographic | Learning Digital | Scoop.it

Do you know the history of social media? Think we'll remember Facebook in 20 years? This detailed timeline is a must-see.

Social media began decades before the Facebook era. It started, more or less, with CompuServe and Arpanet back in 1969. A couple years later, the first-ever email was sent.

It has evolved over the past few decades into a powerful tool, as seen in this social media history timeline. With so much that’s happened over the past few decades, we can only guess what’s coming next for social media.

INNOQUAL Vol 1, No 1 (2013): Pawlowski, Jan & Clemet, Kati: Trusted Educational Networks for the Internationalization of Open Educational Resources

Global educational programs have become increasingly important in Higher Education and the training sector. One promising solution for global collaboration is to collaborate using Open Educational Resources (OER). However, this opportunity has not been used to a broad extent even though millions of learning objects are freely available across the world. This paper discusses key barriers to the use of OER and gives recommendations how materials can be used in international collaborations. A special focus is development of the concept of trusted educational networks and its application for recommendation mechanisms to enhance sharing in communities of trusted colleagues.

Why social media actually works for small business [infographic]

Why social media actually works for small business [infographic] | Learning Digital | Scoop.it

Social media is, at its best, an extension of the human relationship and an opportunity to look customers in the eye (digitally, that is), listen to them and interact person to person. This is the first time in history that small businesses have had the potential to build a massive fan base without a Fortune 500 budget.

The social Web is changing the way consumers discover and interact with businesses online and off and the rapid emergence of social media as a major marketing channel has left many small businesses trying to understand how to find ways to use it effectively. Refer to this infographic to help develop a strategy that suits your business.

How People Use the Internet [INFOGRAPHIC]

How People Use the Internet [INFOGRAPHIC] | Learning Digital | Scoop.it
Today, around the world more people have mobile phone subscriptions than have access to electricity and safe drinkable water. Today, almost a third of the world's population uses the internet (a 528.1% growth since 2000!

So what are we doing with all the time we spend online, and how do we know all that time is being spent in useful ways?

For many of us, the internet is among the first things we experience after we wake; in fact, 75% of users are online before 9 a.m. Over 75% of people in the US own a laptop, 53% a smart phone, and 31% a tablet. Email is the most common action performed by people on their laptops, while search is the top action for mobile phone and tablet users. 72% of people like to play games on their tablets while 70% use their mobile phones for social media. Where do we use these devices? 72% of people use their mobile phones while traveling, and 64% use them in restaurants and coffee shops. As for tablets, 88% of people use their devices in the living room, 79% in the bedroom.

Millennials Are Rewriting the Rules of Work and Entrepreneurship

Millennials Are Rewriting the Rules of Work and Entrepreneurship | Learning Digital | Scoop.it

HR and communication challenge s ahead... What do Millennials want? Flexibility and independence top the list, according to a new study, “Millennials and the Future of Work,” from oDesk.... Millennial workers want freedom and the flexibility to work how they want. Many Millennials have a “freelance” attitude. Almost nine in 10 (89 percent) say they prefer to work when and where they choose (compared to a corporate, 9-to-5 job). When comparing freelance work to “regular” jobs, Millennials say freelancing gives them more freedom to: - Work wherever they like (92 percent). - Work whenever they like (87 percent). - Work on more interesting projects (69 percent). - Travel while working (half say they’d prefer this to taking vacation time). You Might Have a Closet Freelancer on Your Staff Many Millennials are biding their time at regular jobs and freelancing on the side until the time is right to leave. Nearly three-fourths (71 percent) of those who work regular jobs want to quit to be entirely independent; 61 percent say they likely will quit within two years, and 17 percent say they definitely will....
