The Answer Pad | The Graphically-Based Student Response and Assessment System

The Answer Pad | The Graphically-Based Student Response and Assessment System | Learning Development | Scoop.it

The Answer Pad is a student response system, so of course we have the typical select response question types that can be pushed out to the students. M/C, T/F, Yes/No, Fill in are a given. What makes us unique is the graphical nature of the tool, the templated backgrounds that come with The Answer Pad and the built in digital portfolio.

I appreciate this share from Nik Peachey via his Tools for Learners page on Scoop.it.  Nik is one educator I would highly recommend folks follow on Scoop.it.  I truly appreciate his philosophical and pedagogical posts.

As Nik points out in his summary, the feature that allows The Answer Pad to stand out from resources like Socrative and Infinite Learning is the graphing tool.  I see this feature being big in the math, science, and CAD classrooms.

Microsoft Office for iPad? A Teacher's Opinion - teachingwithipad.org | Learning Development | Scoop.it

"MS Office was finally made available for the iPad this past week. This is a long-awaited release, almost four years after the release of Apple's tablet. While the apps are all free to download, you are only able to view documents, and will need to pay a rather large subscription fee of $99 every year to be able to use it. Granted, this subscription does include the latest versions Microsoft Office for your home PCs as well."

This is a classic video from the University of Wisconsin-Madison that will open your empathy eyes and help you see (and hear) what it is like to use a screen reader.

Accessibility is essential for all users. Section 508 (the ADA of the Internet) has been around for a long time.  UDL is making strides in course design.  Technology is improving... Still this information may be new to many.  Watch and imagine you were dependent on technology to read online.

Writefull | A new way of writing with confidence

Writefull | A new way of writing with confidence | Learning Development | Scoop.it

We all use Google to check if our writing is correct. We enter different phrases until we find the one that gives us most results – and this is the one we use in our own text. A smart approach, but not without its annoyances: revisiting the Google webpage breaks the flow of our writing, and its results often contain grammatical errors.

An interesting twist on varying your writing. But the comment was correct - there is a bit of a disruption to the writing process and they students need to be reminded that google is not without spelling mistakes!

The application helps to check your writing (in English) not only regarding spelling and grammer but adds tools to check examples of the use of a certain phrase, context and synonyms, too.

Central Access Reader-Revolutionary Screen Reader that Reads Math Accurately!

Central Access Reader (text to speech) Reads Math Accurately! Alyssa Marinaccio, Assistive Technology Consultant & Trainer for Assistive Technology for Education, LLC, demonstrates this phenomenal program! CAR was released last week at the CSUN conference.

Diana Petschauer's curator insight, March 28, 4:34 PM

Central Access Reader -A FREE screen reader that reads Math accurately, is going to help so many students and individuals who struggle with literacy, processing, dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and other print disabilities, as well as those who are visually impaired or aging and simply benefit from hearing the math aloud.

"Spencer Graffe, a senior in Central Washington University’s Computer Science Program, has helped develop Central Access Reader (CAR), a free computerized text-to-speech reader program that has attracted attention of institutions across the nation.

Marshall Sunnes, Central Access program coordinator and Wendy Holden, Disability and Accessibility Consultant, collaborated to determine what the program should be, how it should look, and what features were most important to include. Graffe had the skills to make it happen.

The program, developed as a tool to assist students with print-related disabilities—those with visual impairments, dyslexia, attention-deficit disorder, or other conditions—reads documents that other text-readers can’t handle, especially those with equations or symbols." Watch the video demonstration, and download CAR for FREE here:
