This is still the best app I recommend often for text to speech for Bookshare books, scanned documents/ handouts/ worksheets, newspapers and articles from the web, and more. Excellent features for assistance with reading!

Voice Dream Reader version 2.8 is out! It's a big release with many new features like Pronunciation Dictionary and Configurable Navigation which are more advanced than any text-to-speech reader in the market.

You can see the full description of all the new features in the blog post:

The most interesting and innovative part of Swivl service is the robot that helps you record your activities with the audience , e.g. your students, on your iPad. You may also use the cloud services by uploading your videos and viewing them in the usual way.

The basic account and iPad app are free.

"Choice boards are powerful tools for providing students with both choice and direction in their work.

The idea, creatively shown below from teacher/blogger Monica Evon in the form of a menu, allows teachers to guide students towards certain forms of academic practice, or demonstration of specific standards. If, for example, you want students to show they understand how to calculate the area of a circle from real-life applications, you can create 8 different ways for them to show it."

Classroom PDF for iPad: Useful for teaching | iPad Insight

Classroom PDF for iPad: Useful for teaching | iPad Insight | Learning Development | Scoop.it

"As any teacher will tell you, the last thing they want to be doing is faffing around with technology during a lesson. An easy way for a lesson to go quickly south is to be relying on a piece of technology to work there and then, and it suddenly doesn’t. Cue descent into chaos and a carefully planned lesson unravelling. This is one of the reasons why the iPad is so appealing in education, because it isn’t a faff (and this is coming from an Android fan). There are also certain apps on the iPad which work in an extremely straightforward way and do something very useful in the classroom. Classroom PDF is one of those apps."

An Overview of iOS 8′s New Accessibility Features - MacStories

An Overview of iOS 8′s New Accessibility Features - MacStories | Learning Development | Scoop.it

Since this year’s WWDC keynote ended, the focus of any analysis on iOS 8 has been its features — things like Continuity, Extensions, and iCloud Drive. This is, of course, expected: iOS is the operating system that drives Apple’s most important (and most profitable) products, so it’s natural that the limelight be shone on the new features for the mass market.

As I’ve written, however, the Accessibility features that Apple includes in iOS are nonetheless just as important and innovative as the A-list features that Craig Federighi demoed on stage at Moscone. Indeed, Apple is to be lauded for their year-over-year commitment to improving iOS’s Accessibility feature set, and they continue that trend with iOS 8.

Here, I run down what’s new in Accessibility in iOS 8, and explain briefly how each feature works.
