How Gamification is Used in ELearning - eLearning Industry | learning by using iPads | Scoop.it
How Can You Implement Gamification Effectively Within Your eLearning Program? Check the How Gamification is Used in ELearning article to find more.
Viljenka Savli's insight:

Gamification is a popular term at the moment and it can be seen in numerous and diverse applications. The simplest definition of gamification is that its approach is to add typical elements of game playing (point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) to other areas of activity.

Nothing to add, only that it's quite tough to achieve good results if you have not got enough knowlede about it.

Resources for Using iPads in Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12 by Monica Burns - Edutopia | learning by using iPads | Scoop.it

Edutopia is one of my favourite web sites. It has recently run a series written by Monica Burns aka @ClassTechTips featuring Resources for Using iPads across multiple grade levels. Though I've featured them each individually here on iPads in Education I thought it might be useful to post all of the series in one collection.

Viljenka Savli's insight:

I liked this statements: ...I would like to suggest an alternative to this: ipedagogy. It seems rather a small change of just one letter, but it does change the focus rather fundamentally. I would like to suggest that we should try to foster the kind of environment in our classes, where students would learn everything in the same way as you learnt how to use an iPad.

Switch it on, play, customise, tinker, collaborate, personalise and learn!

What keeps students motivated to learn? Relevance, connections, and their teachers' emotional investment, among just a few criteria.
Viljenka Savli's insight:

"The real test of any idea is in the classroom, though students are rarely asked about what they think about their education." So true. They can contribute their ideas by thinking about their own styles of learning if they are somehow involved in the process of improving education.

Although we have a LMS that has upload capabilities for students, comments have to be added in a separate comment box instead of right at the appropriate spot in the document.  This sounds much easier for students to share (since many now upload their document into the wrong dropbox) and for faculty to annotate and comment.

How Technology Trends Have Influenced the Classroom

How Technology Trends Have Influenced the Classroom | learning by using iPads | Scoop.it
Teachers all over America are faced with this challenge of keeping students engaged in the classroom when their world outside of school is one of constant engagement and stimulation. Knowing the world outside of our institutional walls is only one step in addressing modern learning styles. How to act and adjust schools today is the next step in making the classroom of today ready for tomorrow.
Viljenka Savli's insight:

I liked the statement: "Our students have access to a global audience and don’t have to write just to please one teacher. They can write based on what they see and believe to be true." and this is, I believe,  the fact that we have to bare in mind when preparing for lessons.

What does the future of learning hold? What will classrooms of the future be like? Emerging technologies such as cloud computing, augmented reality (AR) and 3D printing are paving the way for the future of education in ways we may have yet to see. At the very least though, we can extrapolate from what these promising technologies and predict how schools will adopt them in time to come.

To whom the bell tolls? To the governments to finance the education in a proper way and to foresee the need to modernize the processes at schools and to teachers to embrace the new technologies and let them go with the flow and learn how to adapt and use IT for meaningful purposes.
