Wheeler also clarifies the difference between knowledge, wisdom, and critical awareness. As we explore so many new teaching and learning methods, an ironic side-effect is there is no longer a consensus on what “learning” is, a concept this presentation seeks to understand.
Viljenka Savli (http://www2.arnes.si/~sopvsavl/)'s insight:

"Social factors are coming to dominate learners’ interaction with text and other media, making a kind of communal constructivism and learning literacy, perhaps the single-most fundamental trend in “future learning.”

How to translate this into our everyday practice?

Microsoft's next surprise is free Office for iPad, iPhone, and Android - The Verge

Microsoft's next surprise is free Office for iPad, iPhone, and Android - The Verge | learning by using iPads | Scoop.it

 - THE VergeMicrosoft's Office suite for iPad, iPhone, and Android is now free. In a surprise move, the software giant is shaking up its mobile Office strategy to keep consumers hooked to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. Starting today, you'll no longer need an Office 365 subscription to edit documents or store them in the cloud. The move comes just days after Microsoft announced a strategic partnership with Dropbox to integrate the cloud storage service into Office across desktop, mobile, and the web. You can now download Office for iPad and store all your documents on Dropbox without paying Microsoft anything at all. Microsoft is also releasing a brand new iPhone app today, alongside a preview of Office for Android tablets, all with Dropbox integration.

It's true! And it works! Have tried it out - now there's no excuse not to work... To be honest, I do find Apple Pages to be a little more user-friendly on my iPad, and it also allows one to save one's documents as Word documents which is what I've being doing. So it's understandable why Microsoft has gone this route.

Jan Eade's curator insight, November 11, 2:56 PM

This School Has Bikes Instead Of Desks--And It Turns Out That's A Better Way To Learn - FastCompany

This School Has Bikes Instead Of Desks--And It Turns Out That's A Better Way To Learn - FastCompany | learning by using iPads | Scoop.it

Some classrooms at the school also have an extra bike in the corner, so kids who can't sit still don't have to. Teachers also use time on the bike as a "reward" that happens to benefit the students.Elementary school has always looked a little bit like training for a traditional office job: You show up at 8 or 9, sit at your desk, and fill out paperwork for most of the day. An average third grader might spend as much as six hours sitting in the classroom--only a little less time than the average office worker spends sitting at work. But as more offices realize that sitting all day long is actually pretty terrible for health and productivity, how long will it take schools to catch up?

While some elementary schools no longer have recess, and people like New Jersey Governor Chris Christie argue that school days should be even longer, a few schools are already moving in a different direction. Some are testing out standing desks, and realizing that a little bit of activity can actually improve attention spans. Others, like Ward Elementary in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, are starting to fill classrooms with exercise bikes, so students can work out while they learn.

Via John Evans
Viljenka Savli (http://www2.arnes.si/~sopvsavl/)'s insight:

I like this, as I believe sitting for 5 and more hours in the classroom (at least for me) doesn't inspire learning. I quote:

"Riding exercise bikes makes reading fun for many kids who get frustrated when they read," says Scott Ertl, who started the program. "They have a way to release that frustration they feel while they ride."

Viljenka Savli (http://www2.arnes.si/~sopvsavl/)'s insight:

Gamification is a popular term at the moment and it can be seen in numerous and diverse applications. The simplest definition of gamification is that its approach is to add typical elements of game playing (point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) to other areas of activity.

Nothing to add, only that it's quite tough to achieve good results if you have not got enough knowlede about it.
