Certainly, all the world around, everybody relies on technology more than they imagine or want. This is an interesting report to explore the challenges of this new reality.
Ralph Springett's curator insight, October 10, 2:36 PM
Supporting the development of digital skills is complex. Initiatives are often context specific and reliant on partnerships. In addition, the environment must be fertile for initiatives to flourish. Policy makers, education leaders, industry and the individual all have a role in equitable digital skills development.

Awesome stuff to share with parents and graduating seniors!

Carlos Godoy Rodríguez's curator insight, May 15, 2015 1:13 PM

7 mitos y realidades sobre la formación online.

Mito nro.

Mito nro. 6, usted no aprenderá mucho tomando cursos vía eLearning.

10 Questions to Ask When Planning Tech Infused Units

10 Questions to Ask When Planning Tech Infused Units | Learning Apps | Scoop.it
Here at Edtech at About.com, we've put together a list of potential technology-related questions that you may want to ask yourself when planning for instruction and designing curriculum. Many of these ideas are inspired by existing frameworks and philosophies focused on tech integration.

Via Beth Dichter

Beth Dichter's curator insight, April 24, 2015 8:35 AM

How can teachers best integrate technology into their lesson plans? This post looks at 10 questions we should consider asking ourselves, and provides suggestions of tools to consider using that will help us seamlessly integrate technology. Below are the first four questions.

1. How am I activating into my students' prior knowledge?

2. How am I presenting information to students in an engaging way?

3. How am I collecting, disseminating, and annotating student work?

4. What opportunities and resources am I giving my students for practice?

Integrating technology should become a component of our lesson design. As you review the additional questions you will find that not all apply to every lesson you teach. Think about your objectives and then select the question(s) most applicable.

As you look at the suggested tools in the post make sure that you try using the ones you choose. There is nothing more frustrating than to use a tool as a teacher, and you know it works...but when the student logs in the tool is blocked due to permissions. My lesson learned...I must test each and every tool, so that I know how to use it and to make sure students also have access.

Kimberly House's curator insight, April 25, 2015 8:16 AM

This is an excellent article and very helpful for teachers looking for a way in  to using or enhancing what they do with technology. The list of ideas for each section are high quality. Great recommendations and ideas here.

This fall Pearson introduced an “immersive digital learning tool” called Revel that reimagines the textbook as a multimedia experience replete with videos, interactive exercises, and animated infographics. The goal, Pearson’s Stephen Frail tells me, is to make the course materials “more compelling than Facebook,” which after all is only “one click away” whenever a student is doing coursework on her computer or tablet.

Rube Goldberg Machines and the Engineering Design Process - Tchers' Voice

Rube Goldberg Machines and the Engineering Design Process - Tchers' Voice | Learning Apps | Scoop.it
Rube Goldberg – a comically involved, complicated invention, laboriously contrived to perform a simple operation. ~ Webster’s New World Dictionary

When Rube Goldberg walked away from his engineering career in 1904, it’s unlikely he realized the impact that he would have on 21st century education. I find it ironic that many educators at the forefront of STEM education find inspiration from his cartoons, like The Simple Alarm Clock, that were published in newspapers across the United States over 100 years ago.

When I initially share the Engineering Design Process with my middle school students (see below), I like to have them collaboratively plan, construct and then use the iterative process to continuously refine a Rube Goldberg Machine.

Apple is making it easier for schools to put iPads in classrooms - Engadget

Apple is making it easier for schools to put iPads in classrooms - Engadget | Learning Apps | Scoop.it
Apple's dreams of putting iPads in classrooms have run into a number of roadblocks, but one of the biggest is simply the amount of work involved -- each slate needs its own account, making it a nightmare if you want to outfit an entire school. That won't be a problem for much longer, however. Both MacRumors and 9to5Mac have discovered that Apple is ditching the requirement for individual IDs on school-supplied iPads as of this fall. Staff will just have to decide which devices get apps or books, letting teachers focus on the actual education instead of getting things running. They'll still have plenty of control, so kids can't load up on games and other distractions unless they get the green light. It's too soon to know if this will lead to more kids taking home tablets instead of textbooks, but there will at least be fewer barriers to making that happen.
