Bibi gaat naar de bieb Interactief kinderboek

Bibi gaat naar de bieb Interactief kinderboek | learning and reading styles | Scoop.it

Lauren Yachera's curator insight, February 16, 2014 5:22 PM

This was a really cool find- the thing that caught my attention was the quote at the beginning about learning with the world, not just about it.  This doesn't only mean learning about the holidays and foods that are within a particular culture (the presentation calls these shallow features). It means more so to learn about the values, attitudes, and beliefs of the people. Students should know about the history of a culture and how it came to be.  This is something that all students in our time should know about. The world is forever changing, and teachers and students alike have to be able to keep up with it.

Jacqueline Lledo's curator insight, February 20, 2014 8:51 PM

I really love this slideshow of pictures and phrases relating to global competency. The PowerPoint makes very strong and powerful statements throughout it.  “Learn with the world… not just about the world”.  I really loved this quote on the first page.  As a teacher you should be helping your students to become globally competent and reaching outside the box.  Students don’t need to be just taught about different people, cultures, ethnicities, religions, etc. from a textbook.  But instead, the teachers can “inspire the students to explore beyond their nation” and “open global gateways” so that they can gain tools and skills to help contribute to the world.  These images and messages are also great posters to print our and put into a classroom one day!!

The corridor of uncertainty: It ain't what you do it's the way that you do it | learning and reading styles | Scoop.it

Does technology improve learning? Will results improve if all school pupils have laptops? Two frequently asked questions by tech skeptics and the answer in both cases is probably no. Technology on its own is not going to make people learn more and no amount of laptops or wireless broadband capacity is going to make pupils and students more insightful. At the same time we have no evidence that books make people learn better or that lectures have any effect on learning. You can have access to all the wisdom in the world without actually learning anything from it.

George Dyson As Richard Foreman so beautifully describes it, we've been pounded into instantly-available pancakes, becoming the unpredictable but statistically critical synapses in the whole Gödel-to-Google net. Does the resulting mind (as Richardson would have it) belong to us? Or does it belong to something else?

Education 3.0 | David Bill

Education 3.0 | David Bill | learning and reading styles | Scoop.it

Instead of wasting our time, money, and energy on simply introducing the latest technologies, we need to spend our professional development time helping teachers understand how and why we must move to a Education 3.0 model. If we continue to teach using outdated models, not only will our students lose interest but they will be left behind. The chart from Education Futures outlines this idea.

StudyFlow - Over StudyFlow

StudyFlow - Over StudyFlow | learning and reading styles | Scoop.it
