YouCanBook.Me

YouCanBook.Me | Web2.0 Tools for Staff and Students | Scoop.it
The Easiest Way To Take Bookings Online. Let people book fixed length slots straight into your Google Calendar.

Really interesting feature this. Create bookable time slots throughout the day to support staff training.

Made public as a Google calendar it allows a more personalised approach to staff training and a welcome move away from fixed slot, after school training.

Mobile feature is welcome and would assume that this can be made available on a variety of platforms (including VLEs?)

Free and follow them on twitter - https://twitter.com/YouCanBookMe

TinyTap - Create Personalised Games, Quizzes and Lessons on your Tablet

TinyTap - Create Personalised Games, Quizzes and Lessons on your Tablet | Web2.0 Tools for Staff and Students | Scoop.it

Saw this site at BETT. Allows you to play and create personalised games for the iPad and Android. You can also make lessons and games.

The games/quizzes can be played on the device or embedded into other web based platforms via iframes.

Some of the game examples are more KS1 early KS2 but its very very endearing and a huge potential.

Great features available:

Creation Packs with lots of characters and backgrounds

Online image search feature

Upload images from any device linked eg Dropbox, OneDrive etc

Text boxes and formatting for writing

Drawing tools and styles

Share your game

Embed your completed game

Add a challenge mode with leaderboard, wrong answer limit, question timers and game timers

Add a selection of background music

Record your questions

Add recordings for correct and wrong answers

Add questions linked to images eg Year WW1 started, Nelson Mandela, Ou est la plage?

Add a sound board eg record word in Spanish and have it play when you click on the picture

Shape Puzzle eg drag and drop shapes in correct position or fill in missing words eg for sentence construction

Video - although I got a 404 error?

Create one quiz or a whole section of quizzes linked together in one game.

This would be a brilliant resource in the hands of a student. Get them to work with other departments or teachers in junior school to produce a range of activities and get them published!

Top 100 Tools for Learning 2014 | Jane Hart

Top 100 Tools for Learning 2014 | Jane Hart | Web2.0 Tools for Staff and Students | Scoop.it

I spent the weekend compiling this year’s Top 100 Tools List, updating the Top 100 Tools site and producing a slideset that I have uploaded to Slideshare and embedded below.

I’ve also done a full analysis of this year’s list, and produced aBest of Breed categorised list, but here are some of the highlights from this year’s list.

The list was compiled from 1,038 votes from learning professionals from 61 countries worldwide

Fascinating and yet alarming. We learn best by doing. All technologies, great as they are, are learning aids that's all they are

Lots of potential. Simply set the date in the future, write your message and add your email address then Submit.

Lots of amazing uses eg as part of INSET training with staff to get them to set goals they would like to achieve after a certain time (Letter to self). Could be used by students for goal setting in a subject or a time capsule for Year 7 students on entry!

Record Your iPad or iPhone Screen for Free with QuickTime on Macbook

Record Your iPad or iPhone Screen for Free with QuickTime on Macbook | Web2.0 Tools for Staff and Students | Scoop.it

With the release of OS X Yosemite came the ability to use QuickTime to record the screen of your iPad or iPhone. This is an awesome update as until now you had to purchase additional software to allow for this type of screen capture. There are only a few steps to get started.

This is a massive feature for those of us lucky to have a macbook as well as an iPad. Making "instructional" or help videos for the iPad has always been a hugely complicated affair but now, no longer.

Massive breakthrough - now to go off and record the OneNote and Google Drive App :o)

gideonwilliams's insight:

Pretty much a bargain, even if you have to fork out some money for a lightning cable (should you not already have that if you have an iPad?)

Text Adventures - Quest: Interactive Fiction

Text Adventures - Quest: Interactive Fiction | Web2.0 Tools for Staff and Students | Scoop.it

So pleased to see this make a comeback with the development of Computing.

This is an awesome tool and now even better as you can create games online for free (instead of downloading the software).

Interactive Fiction games are not just text based, you can include sounds, images and even video. What makes it all work is imagination.

Try it as a joint project with your English Department to encourage creative writing.

Fantastic product especially for those who were fans of the original books! (Go to Page 15 if you agree, Page 25 if you disagree etc etc)

Enjoy. Check out the forums for some of my helpsheets or get in touch. Try my game too :o)

Team WhiteBoarding with Twiddla - Painless Team Collaboration for the Web

Twiddla is a free, no-setup, web-based meeting playground. Mark up websites, graphics, and photos, or start brainstorming on a blank canvas. Voice and Text chat too!

Rather impressed by this tool. I like the idea that it is a truly collaborative board so you can edit other students work. Treating it like a Padlet means that students can move other students notes around.

The grid feature is an added bonus which allows you to position objects where you want. You can also import images and websites as "backgrounds". Lots of very powerful tools.
