OhLife helps you remember what's happened in your life

Lots of potential. Simply set the date in the future, write your message and add your email address then Submit.

Lots of amazing uses eg as part of INSET training with staff to get them to set goals they would like to achieve after a certain time (Letter to self). Could be used by students for goal setting in a subject or a time capsule for Year 7 students on entry!

What else?

Memrise - Learn something new everyday

Memrise - Learn something new everyday | Web2.0 Tools for Teachers and Students | Scoop.it

Given a nod about this by MFL Department.

Learn, memorise and testing site. Great for MFL but could be done in any other subject.

The teacher creates a course and on it puts a number of terms and their translation. If doing simple vocab, you can select from items already added. You also have the option of recording audio to support the learning. You can  add additional columns with pictures and text attributes (eg noun, feminine). You can also add extra levels..

Once done you open up to the students. The student learns the word (planting). You read/listen to each term and the translation. You can also choose a mem to see the word used in context (these are help tips suggested by others and could be video, picture, sound etc) As they learn they will be given tasks that include a mixture of memorising the words and testing their learning of it. There are a range of testing questions used.

You can save and exit at any time and go back to where you were

Tests are done against the clock. If you create groups, students can compete against each other and see their scores in a scoreboard table.

Huge potential and opportunities.. Go and look at all the different features that can be done. I really like the Learn to use a Rubiks Cube course which combines videos and a range of quiz types..

infuselearning | Empowering The BYOD REVOLUTION (Quiz)

infuselearning | Empowering The BYOD REVOLUTION (Quiz) | Web2.0 Tools for Teachers and Students | Scoop.it

The "latest" in the welcome addition of student response systems and well deserves its place at the top table with Kahoot and Socrative.

Can be used in many modes such as interactive, "real time" answering with students. Teacher asks question or puts question on board and students reply with a response. I particularly like the Draw Response option where you can draw a reply (great with tablets). http://snapguide.com/guides/run-quick-assessments-on-infuselearning/ shows you more

I have used Infuse mainly in Assessment mode by writing a series of questions and sending out the link and ID to students (bit like Kahoot but not real time). GREAT range of questions from multiple choice, multiple select, sort in order, Likert and free text. You can also add in images.

As with Socrative you can creates pupil classes and data sent back to you can be downloaded as a spreadsheet.

Popcorn Maker

Popcorn Maker | Web2.0 Tools for Teachers and Students | Scoop.it

This is a truly amazing piece of free software. You will need to create a username and password to save work (unless you already have a Persona account one from Mozilla's Open Badges work).

Basically, it allows you to upload either a YouTube Video, SoundCloud sound file, Vimeo video or still image and via layers:

Add text, images, popups, Googlemaps, links, create pauses, crop the original video and other things too.

All of these can be dragged to begin at different stages of the video.

Once saved, you can embed the code in a Mahara or Moodle page. You can also send a link to your completed "popcorn" that others can see (good for Show My Homework links then)

Am sure there is lots more here. lets hope it is around for a while

BrainRush | Home

BrainRush | Home | Web2.0 Tools for Teachers and Students | Scoop.it

Brainrush have just added a "bucket" template to their list of quiz generators (now numbering two).

You can have 2 (or more) labeled buckets. Players drag and drop text, image and/or audio into the correct bucket.

Super for categorisation tasks eg food groups, rock types or parts of speech etc. Lots of Science opportunities and I bet some MFL ones too.

Here is one I made earlier for GCSE Physics Radiation

http://www.brainrush.com/lesson/play/types-of-radiation

BrainRush have now put in a new Ordering/Spelling option for their quizzes. This works really well and is not too hard to follow. A super explanatory video is available here: http://youtu.be/vb0kjTxpnNc and my attempt at word equations for chemistry is here: http://www.brainrush.com/lesson/play/chemical-word-equations

UPDATE: BrainRush have removed the need to create an account to play. You do go through a warning message but nothing else - hurrah!

Plickers - Transforming Student Assessment and Data Collection

Another Quiz style, interactive polling system but with a big difference. Teacher creates the classes through the website and assigns names.

Download the App on iphone, pad or android device

Each student is given an answer card (QR code style) which has four possible answers: A, B, C and D.

Teacher gives out the question eg on a PowerPoint. Students choose an answer and hold up their card (in the correct rotation).

Either through web cam or scanning with the camera, each score is automatically recorded and stored in a chart.

Looks very promising

Here is a great video showing it in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeUge9K7SGk

PhET Simulations | Web2.0 Tools for Teachers and Students | Scoop.it

Dont often Scoop Subject specific features but these are utterly astonishing. High quality simulations for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology and Maths.

Amazing  variety and variation within simulations. Models are chosen well eg Conservation of Energy from KE to PE is based on a skateboarder on a ramp. Options for this include energy transfer to Heat via friction.

The electrical circuits model also allows you to explore pupil misconceptions with ideas such as pd and current

Many simulations also include graphical analysis and you can choose a range of ways to present the information

Blendspace allows educators to blend their classroom with digital content.

Interesting idea here. Create mini lessons based on what appears to be links to videos, websites, presentations, images, uploading your own files and quizzes.

Could work well for cover lessons and perhaps be added to VLEs.

Claims to make a 5 minute lesson is intriguing.....Assuming it does not mean the lesson lasts 5 minutes!
