Excellence through some self analysis and good advice!

Karen Dietz's curator insight, April 7, 1:30 PM

Today it's all about presentation skills! Here's a terrific SlideShare program that focuses less on slide layout, and zeroes in on all the strategic thinking you need to do BEFORE you even get to a slide.

Most people miss this. They have a presentation to give, gather some information, and then leap into PowerPoint. The result? Usually a boring presentation.

The advice here is all about the audience, the why, and the message. Starting from these points will result in a way better presentation. And of course, strategically telling stories in your presentation is a sure winner.

Take the advice here to heart and game on!

Some good insights shared here on the best options to employ when presenting. An amateur, it is said, when asked to speak, first thinks about what will be said, while a professional asks, "Who is my audience?".

All learning technologies have a place, but "technology' - in the form of a solution, support and application device or system "decays" over time. It goes from technology to facility.....and falls from the innovation spot that breaks it into use. That said, drawing with a stick in mud, once a real innovation to led to early man being able to convey and communicate is still relevant in some situations. Mind you, saying that, I have to refrain from pointing these things out in case the current Education Secretary here in england decides to add it to the curriculum ;-)

Land Unseen: What's Beneath Antarctica's Ice? | Learn tech development | Scoop.it

"Many of us tend to think of Antarctica as a sheet of solid snow and ice. But, in contrast with its peer to the north, the southern pole's ice sheet lies atop a rocky continent. What are its features, its mountains and valleys, plains and coastlines?

A new dataset from the British Antarctic Survey provides the most detailed map ever of the bedrock below, information scientists hope will enable them to better model the affects of climate change on the ice, whose melting will have an impact on climate the world over."

Jenn Alevy's curator insight, May 14, 2013 11:04 PM

For some reason computer programing as a career seemed to take a back seat to other math/science/computer careers, esp.during the late 90s. Now it is time to get back to that, a million programers needed in the next 10 years is a great opportunity for many kids, I hope they do more to target more girls, not just boys.

Developing Your Digital Study Skills

Developing Your Digital Study Skills | Learn tech development | Scoop.it

Making the move from our safe and trusted traditional literacy habits to newer digital skills can be quite a challenge, but as teachers I think we are really unlikely to be able to use technology and help our students use technology really effectively unless we are prepared to face this challenge. Technology needs to be more than part of the way we teach but it also has to be part of the way we ourselves continue to learn and part of our everyday professional practice.
