Costa Tropical Coast of Spain: La Herradura, Almuñecar, Motril and Salobreña | Learn Spanish | Scoop.it

The Costa Tropical Tropical Paradise; with beautiful long beaches, no mass tourism and stunning nature. A relatively unknown secret of Spain.

The Spanish Language School of La Herradura was founded in 1996, and has skilled and qualified Spanish native teachers. A small and familiair school in a local, Spanish town, that offers programs for the whole family. Children can participate to the activities in town, and it is a great place for water sports lovers.

Sonja Hartemink e-learning Spanish's insight:
The Costa Tropical

Tropical Paradise….

Bathed by the waters of the Mediterranean, the county of Costa Tropical-Granada is protected from the cold by the high peaks of the Sierra Nevada, whilst the warm winds from the North of Africa provide the region with a temperate climate, thus giving it both its name ‘Tropical’ and a subtropical microclimate which is unique in the Iberian Peninsula. With an average temperature of 18,5   ̊C and 320 days of sun a year, the holiday of a lifetime is guaranteed while half of Europe is covered with snow.

Located in the South of the province of Granada, it offers visitors direct contact with Nature, with wide open spaces of great beauty and interest such as The Sierras de Tejada, Almijarra and Alhama Natural Park, and the Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo Nature Reserve, which has posidonia or ‘seagrass’ fields of great value growing in the depths of its waters.

Sonja Hartemink e-learning Spanish's insight:

Listening to music or singing is a wonderful way to consolidate your language learning. Music triggers the  language centers of the brain, and draws emotion into the learning process,  which serves as a memory trigger.

Like reading in the target language, listening to a range of musical forms  also introduces you to the poetry of the language – the limitations and  possibilities of its grammar and vocabulary, slang, puns, the many and the  varied ways native speakers “play” with the language.

Am I Too Old To Learn Spanish? | Learn Spanish | Scoop.it
So you're at middle age or beyond and thinking about learning a foreign language? Is this a realistic goal?
Sonja Hartemink e-learning Spanish's insight:

Answer from Juliette86:Tougher? Definitely. I think it is tougher to learn anything new after 40. Impossible? No way. You might want to consider vacationing someplace where Spanish is the main language spoken. It is really gratifying to realize how much you do understand when you have to.

When you are by yourself, studying, it is easy to only notice what you are not getting, but when your big outing for the morning consists of locating and purchasing some ordinary household item, say a thermometer or insoles, nothing feels as good as being able to make it happen because you can speak "a little" Spanish.  Good luck!

Looking for a new language to study? Here are 9 of the easiest languages for English speakers to learn.

Learn Spanish in Spain: www.spanish-school-herradura.com

Sonja Hartemink e-learning Spanish's insight:
8. Spanish

Spanish pronunciation is fairly easy for English speakers, with only ten  vowel/dipthong sounds (English has 20), and the easy-to-master letter ñ. Like  Italian, the orthography is clear and simple; words are written as they’re  pronounced, which makes reading easier. Grammatically, Spanish has fewer  irregularities than other romance languages too.

A slippery element of the language (and all the Romances) is in false  cognates: word pairings that sound the same as an English word, but mean  something different. Particular means “private” in Spanish, and eventual means  possible. See how that could get confusing?

Still, there’s no shortage of people in the world to help you fix these  slip-ups. With 330 million native speakers, it’s the most popular language on  this list.

It is so big the influence of this sea in our culture, that there are a lot of references about it in poems and songs.

Our Mediterranean sea is almost surrounded by land, and it is connected with the Atlantic Ocean in Gibraltar. Its name comes from Latin, and it means “in land” or “in the middle of the land”. It has been an important route for trade and cultural exchange from ancient times to the present day, as well as a place of enjoyment and relax.

Importance of Language

Sonja Hartemink e-learning Spanish's insight:

The importance of language is essential to every aspect and interaction in our everyday lives. We use language to inform the people around us of what we feel, what we desire, and question/understand the world around us. We communicate effectively with our words, gestures, and tone of voice in a multitude of situation.

Would you talk to a small child with the same words you would in a business meeting. Being able to communicate with each other, form bonds, teamwork, and it’s what separates humans from other animal species. Communication drives our lives and better ourselves.

Tapas Of Spain In Andulucia – It’s How You Eat, Not What You Eat. | Learn Spanish | Scoop.it

Tapas seem to cause a lot of confusion with people. One largely held belief is that tapas are
a type of food, when in fact, they are a way of eating food. Tapas can be anything.

Bless your heart, Granada. Not only are you packed to the rim with tapas bars, you also have upheld the seriously amazing tradition of including a free tapa with every glass of vino tinto!

Ruta de Tapas in La Herradura, Granada, Almuñecar, Salobreña and Motril: www.spanish-school-herradura.com

Sonja Hartemink e-learning Spanish's insight:

From piping hot patatas bravas, to crispy San Jacoboss. The unifying theme behind all tapas is that they are small portions served on either small plates or atop a piece of bread, pierced with a toothpick (also called pinchos).

Tapeando, or going out for tapas is a quintessentially Spanish experience. The normal procedure is to gather a group of friends, pitch in a few euros together (this is called the bote), and hop from bar to bar, sipping and sampling all of the delicious Spanish treats in front of you.

So you have a craving for Rioja wine and savory Spanish food, your friends are gathered and you’re ready to take on this Spanish experience.

The Spanish Language School of La Herradura organizes Rutas de Tapa in town, or in neighbouring towns. A great way to enjoy a drink and some food together with the other students. The province of Granada has the great tradition to offer the tapas free of charge!

In 2013, it’s almost impossible to get through school without learning a foreign language.

In the U.S. and U.K., speaking a foreign language isn’t necessarily valued, because we aren’t always confronted with opportunities to learn and use other languages. But once you get outside of North America, monolingualism is far from the norm.

And if you’re thinking of traveling or studying abroad, learning a new language is imperative.

Actually speaking a foreign language fluently takes a lot of hard work and practice. Even if you study every day, it can take years to master some languages. Meanwhile, you start to get frustrated at your lack of progress and you want to give up.

Don’t.

There are all kinds of rewards associated with speaking a second language. Not just intangible rewards, like being able to chat with locals when you travel, but psychological and health rewards as well. Studies show that being able to speak a second language may help you multitask and prevent dementia.

So if you want to reap all of the benefits of speaking a second language, how can you continue working on your language skills without getting burnt out?

Napping is normal. Ever feel tired in the afternoon? That’s because your brain really wants to take a nap. There’s a battle raging in your head between two armies. Around 3 p.m., 12 hours after the midpoint of your sleep, all your brain wants to do is nap.
