Angela Chammas, M.Ed., M.S., CPC's insight:

Engaged leaders know that the surest road to business success always goes through the hearts, minds and spirits of those that they lead.  By acknowledging and engaging with the people around them from the inside out, engaged leaders create a strong sense of community and common purpose, which is necessary when inspiring others to achieve a shared goal.

Leveraging technology to build upon the ideas and knowledge of others is powerful when you have a purpose.  Otherwise it can be overwhelming.  Balancing the ability to grow ideas without getting weighted down with the volume of information will continue to be an interesting challenge.

How 7 Simple Questions Can Get You Unstuck

How 7 Simple Questions Can Get You Unstuck | Leading Forward | Scoop.it
Getting stuck is very frustrating.  Having all these great ideas percolating in your head and not being able to bring them to fruition can be exhausting and a major source of disappointment in yourself.
Angela Chammas, M.Ed., M.S., CPC's insight:

I use the words "BE GREAT" to remind me that it is up to me to seize the "moments that matter" that come into my life to do great things.  Just remember:

  • Believe in the unique gifts and talents you have to offer the world; seed your talent and let it grow
  • Express your knowledge, expertise and authentic self to accomplish great things; don't hide you

  • Grab every "moment that matters"  by giving your very best, by doing what is doable
  • Release your fears so you can embrace the possible and imagine a new way; make the unknown known
  • Enjoy the ride and the journey life is taking you on to be the person you want to be; to fulfill your life's purpose
  • Act with purpose, passion and power to inspire and generate action; to make a positive difference
  • Trust that time will give you the opening and the opportunity to do great things; stay prepared and ready to seize the moment

"Trusting others with the abilities and capabilities means empowering them to think for themselves."  I love this quote.  How many applications there are for both administrators and teachers.  Once you've done your homework and decided to hire someone, you have to trust in their professionalism and then be amazed when they surpass your expectations.

HR Magazine - New model leaders: How leadership is changing

HR Magazine - New model leaders: How leadership is changing | Leading Forward | Scoop.it
Evidence suggests organisations’ leadership strategies are failing to keep up with a fast-changing world. To bridge this gulf, the notion of what a leader looks like needs to change, according to Cliff Oswick, professor in organisational behaviour theory and deputy dean at Cass Business School. “The days of the ‘rock star’ CEO are behind us,” he says. “We don’t need leaders who demonstrate ‘strong leadership’. We need people who are inclusive, reflective and facilitate the ideas of others.”

5 Ways To Win Today's War For Talent

5 Ways To Win Today's War For Talent | Leading Forward | Scoop.it
When everyone's disengaged and looking for the next best thing, how can you win great talent to your side?
Angela Chammas, M.Ed., M.S., CPC's insight:

Just as important to winning the war for talent is winning the war of talent relationship marketing before the actual talent war even starts. Connecting and engaging with passive talent ahead of the game enables companies to proactively build relationships with potential candidates while marketing their talent brand and career opportunities anytime and anywhere.

How to Stay at the Top of Your Game

How to Stay at the Top of Your Game | Leading Forward | Scoop.it
My biggest strength—and therefore, my biggest flaw—is that I’m a perfectionist.

If I’m doing something, even if it’s a blog post or a small freebie for promotional purposes, I’m going to make sure that it’s something I’m proud of putting my name on. I don’t take shortcuts and I don’t like people who do. This means that I’m often overworked and overwhelmed (link is external), but it also means that I, at least in my own head, feel that I’m kickass. (It’s also why I’ve learned to say no to a lot of things.)

10 Unforgettable Quotes by Jim Rohn

10 Unforgettable Quotes by Jim Rohn | Leading Forward | Scoop.it
When personal development legend Jim Rohn passed away in 2009, he left an incredible gift: his encouraging, uplifting messages and inspiring, thought-provoking quotes, beloved by millions and shared throughout the world to this day.
For what would be his 84th birthday on Sept. 17, SUCCESS celebrates and remembers the life of Jim Rohn with 10 of his most beloved quotes:
1. “Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less cha
Angela Chammas, M.Ed., M.S., CPC's insight:

Jim Rohn has been a virtual mentor of mine since I began my career many years ago.  I too cherish and am grateful for the many uplifting and thoughtful messages he shared with the world and planted in my spirit from the very beginning of my career.   Messages that encouraged and motivated me to purposefully decide and act upon how I would engage and lead in the pursuit of my goals.  Here are a few additional favorite Jim Rohn quotes that continue to inspire and speak to me as I go forward on my journey:

“Life expects us to make a reasonable amount of progress in a reasonable amount of time. That's why they make those second grade chairs so small.”  - Jim Rohn

“Never wish life were easier, wish that you were better. When you become better it will naturally become easier.” - Jim Rohn

"Let others lead small lives but not you.  Let others argue over small things, but not you.  Let others cry over small hurts, but not you.  Let others leave their future in someone else's hands, but not you." - Jim Rohn

"Motivation alone is not enough.  If you have an idiot and you motivate them, now you have a motivated idiot." - Jim Rohn

"Work harder on yourself, than you do on the job. You can't give more if you don't become more." - Jim Rohn

"The greatest gift you can give somebody is your own personal development. I used to say, "If you will take care of me, I will take care of you. "Now I say, I will take care of me for you, if you will take care of you for me." - Jim Rohn

"Miss a meal if you have to, but don't miss a book." - Jim Rohn

"We don’t get paid for the hour; we get paid for the value we bring to the hour." - Jim Rohn

"You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with." - Jim Rohn

“Managers help people see themselves as they are; Leaders help people to see themselves better than they are.” - Jim Rohn

"How long should you try? Until.” - Jim Rohn

"First come reasons, then come answers." - Jim Rohn

Can Overthinking Reduce a Leader's Influence? | Stanford Graduate School of Business

Can Overthinking Reduce a Leader's Influence? | Stanford Graduate School of Business | Leading Forward | Scoop.it

We've all seen this: The CEO who acts instinctively, sometimes with terrible results, keeps his or her job and even develops a loyal following. Meanwhile, the thinker in the executive suite who consistently offers the right, deliberated answer rarely gets a promotion.

Angela Chammas, M.Ed., M.S., CPC's insight:

Interesting article and very relevant to leadership decision making today.  As leaders we have to better weigh the options when anticipating the need and opportunity to "lead in the moment" versus waiting until all our "t's" are crossed and "i's" are dotted. Maybe Nike was also onto something that could improve a leaders influence in the right situation when they said "Just Do It"! The bottom-line is, leaders have to be careful not to "overthink" the small decisions or "underthink" the bigger ones is they want to truly be influential.

6 Ways Leaders Continue To Grow - Joseph Lalonde

6 Ways Leaders Continue To Grow - Joseph Lalonde | Leading Forward | Scoop.it
Our pursuit of growth shouldn’t end when we graduate high school or college. Nor should it end when we are bestowed with the title of leadership. No, leaders must be intentional about their growth. Young leaders may wonder what can they do to continue their growth. They’ve already taken the courses that were required. They’ve …
Angela Chammas, M.Ed., M.S., CPC's insight:

As leaders, we cannot give to the team members nor the organizations we have the honor of leading that which we don’t possess.  Therefore, in order to give more as leaders we have to continually become more as leaders.  In other words, we must never stop growing and learning.
