As world leaders prepare to talk tough on climate change in New York City, the stark lack of progress made so far in tackling the problem is revealed
Gordon McGlone's insight:

||Presidents, prime ministers and ministers flying into New York City on Tuesday for a one-day United Nations summit on climate change have their work cut out for them. And this is why. As the graph above shows, despite everything they have done so far, we are on a clear course to extreme global warming.||

Gordon McGlone's insight:

Nature is one of the big losers in today's 'U.K.' election result as national politics come to the fore.  European environmental regulation and legislation will be the subject of conservative attrition.  Science led bovine TB policy will be consigned to the bin alongside evidence based nature policies as farmer led badger culls juggernaut begins to rev up.

Rock star Brian May campaigns for 'Common Decency' in the West | Leading for Nature | Scoop.it
Brian May, Queen guitarist, astrophysicist, badger cull activist, has been on the campaign trail in the West. But he's for people, not politics.

The 67-year-old rock legend has been trying to convince people to use their vote - but in a way that he says would makes democracy work for us all. His Common Decency campaign says voting should be about individual politicians, rather than party politics.

He popped into the studio yesterday to explain how it works...
Gordon McGlone's insight:

Common Decency is what I expect from my MP.  This election will see a lot of complacent politicians feel the order of the boot.

Just 17% of England's rivers are judged to be in good health, according to "shocking" figures
Gordon McGlone's insight:

Our rivers are in a poor state and inadequate remediation work is underway to tackle the problem.  Moreover chronic problems relating to agricutural run off, river channel barriers and  soil erosion remain unchallenged by the Environment Agency.  This is a wake up call to action.  Our fish stocks are in decline; failing river health can not be ignored.

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Marine ecologist Jane Lubchenco of Oregon State University will share a $200,000 award for leadership in conservation and sustainability policy. The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports that she is a co-winner of the 2015 Tyler Prize, a top honor in environmental science, environmental health and energy. The other winner is Madhav Gadgil, a forestry and environmental leader at India’s Goa University. Both were honored for work connecting science with cultural and economic considerations. There is nothing in Europe remotely like this river system.”
