Leadership: Is Too Much Expected of Me?

Leadership: Is Too Much Expected of Me? | The Leadership Lab by ANZIZAR | Scoop.it
In order to succeed, we need to slow it down. We need to expect less from ourselves and be okay with it. We need to help others see that less is more.

Business is not local or national any more, but worldwide. The internet and social media keeps us connected constantly. Nothing is private and most of us are dancing through hoops to keep up with the demand.

So if too much is expected of us, I say:

Stop.

Get off the treadmill.

Do less.

Decrease the sound.

Seth Godin on the Difference Between Leadership and Management

Seth Godin on the Difference Between Leadership and Management | The Leadership Lab by ANZIZAR | Scoop.it
Bestselling author Seth Godin says that "Management and leadership are totally different things. You think you are being a leader, but you are probably being a manager."
He goes on to say, "Managers figure out what they want done and get people to do it. Managers try to get people to do what they did yesterday, but a little faster and a little cheaper with a few less defects." But this is not leadership.

What is leadership? You'll have to watch this seven-minute video to learn more.

Five Tips for Authentic Leadership

Five Tips for Authentic Leadership | The Leadership Lab by ANZIZAR | Scoop.it
Few transitions test one’s character like moving to a senior leadership role. It’s one thing to gain mastery of a particular function or skillset; it’s quite another to take responsibility for, and earn the respect of, employees from different backgrounds, functions, and cultures.

10 clever ways to be more innovative at work

10 clever ways to be more innovative at work | The Leadership Lab by ANZIZAR | Scoop.it

Quick: What sounds more fun? Filling in spreadsheets with data for eight hours or coming up with new and exciting ideas?

I'll go ahead and assume you went with option two. The opportunity to innovate is something most of us want more of in our daily work lives. Yet often, we feel we can't be more creative at work because of factors beyond our control. Perhaps your company is risk-averse and likes to play it safe, perhaps your targets are intimidatingly aggressive, or perhaps the sheer size of your to-do list makes adding anything new feel impossible.

While a lot of these may be true, there are also some tips and tricks almost anyone can adopt to keep your innovation muscles strong and ready to go. And like any muscle group, the more you practice it, the stronger, better, and more unstoppable it becomes. Here are 10 things you can do on the job to make it easier to be more innovative every single day.

Using Design Thinking to Design Business Models

Using Design Thinking to Design Business Models | The Leadership Lab by ANZIZAR | Scoop.it
“ Business model design sets out to define how an enterprise creates, delivers and captures market value. The interrelationship between those three facets is key to understanding how a business model can be invented to define a new venture. Intrapreneurs exercise the ideation component to produce novel products or services to potentially create a new market with a compelling value proposition for target customer segments.”

Even Experienced Executives Avoid Conflict

Even Experienced Executives Avoid Conflict | The Leadership Lab by ANZIZAR | Scoop.it

Few managers will admit to actively avoiding difficult conversations with colleagues. But I’ve noticed that while many speak about the importance of candor for getting things done, managers often sidestep or steer clear of emotionally charged situations by pretending they don’t exist, delaying the day of reckoning, or bringing in sympathetic third parties.

Avoidance is so common that there’s no panacea for overcoming it. Perhaps the best we can do is become more aware of our tendency to rationalize it and practice dealing with tough situations so we feel more prepared when they arise.
