What The Happiest People Know About Work

What The Happiest People Know About Work | Leadership Training | Scoop.it

Study, work hard, and you will be successful.

This was the mantra repeated by educators throughout my youth. None of them added "be happy" to the success equation.

But a growing body of research in positive psychology and neuroscience is demonstrating that happiness is the secret ingredient to success. It turns out, our brains are more engaged, creative, productive, and resilient when in a positive state.

All this unhappiness comes with a high price tag to businesses, costing more than $550 billion a year in lost productivity. In his book, Donovan identifies 60 simple steps individuals can take to improve their happiness and get back on the path to success. Here are six of the top things happy workers do:

If you don't enjoy what you do it is very difficult to be successful.  There are ways to re-frame the way that you look at things to help you focus on what is important to you.

Avoiding energy sappers is what led me to retire from teaching. It was not the students and parents. It was the bureaucratic and technocratic nonsense that went on in school which passes itself off as education.

I am calling this movement "The Great Curate" Where the trend is for leaders in each industry to  share the best content available in their industry with as many people as possible. Companies such as Scoop.it stand to make millions in the curation business.Guillame Decugis makes a strong point that brands can build their presence and attract a higher level of traffic to their websites and product offerings without having to create new content by curating the best and sharing it. It's faster and much less expensive to curate than to create and distribute original conten.Companies can accomplish more in less time and for a lower cost. That could be fabulous.

Lions Go Digital: The Internet’s Transformative Potential In Africa

Lions Go Digital: The Internet’s Transformative Potential In Africa | Leadership Training | Scoop.it

Following a decade of rapid urbanization and strong economic growth, Africa is going digital. While just 16 percent of the continent’s one billion people are online, that picture is changing rapidly.

As the continent grows more connected, it is already producing innovative web-based applications and dynamic new business models.

Kenneth Mikkelsen's curator insight, November 24, 2013 8:35 AM

According to their newly released report, today the continent’s iGDP (the contribution to overall GDP by the Internet) is at 1.1%.

Africa’s iGDP should grow to at least 5 to 6% by 2025, meeting that of leading economies including Sweden, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.

  • If Internet reaches the scale and impact that mobile phones have in Africa, iGDP could potentially account for 10% of the total GDP ($300bn) and produce a jump forward in both economic and social developments.
  • The top three countries leading the way in Africa are Senegal (3.3% iGDP), Kenya (2.9% iGDP) and Morocco (2.3% iGDP).
  • The Internet’s biggest impact on Africa seems to be concentrated in six key sectors: financial services, education, health, retail, agriculture, and government.
  • For companies working on these industries, that means having great opportunities if they are decisive and move fast.
