The Four Keys to Effective First-Line Leadership | Webinar | Training Industry

The Four Keys to Effective First-Line Leadership | Webinar | Training Industry | Leadership Training | Scoop.it

Have you heard the phrase, “What got you here, won’t get you there?”

This is particularly true for new first-line leaders.  The transition to manager is among the most difficult leadership transitions.  The technical skills and knowledge that have brought them success will now account for only 15% of their ability to make an impact. The other 85%? This accounts for the manager’s people skills and knowledge.  This shift from technical expertise to people management requires a very different way of thinking.

Cultivating Collective Mindfulness: The Leader’s New Work

Cultivating Collective Mindfulness: The Leader’s New Work | Leadership Training | Scoop.it

The reality is that we—all of us, not just the financial elite—are the collective sleepwalkers. How do we wake up? Why is it that, across so many major systems, we collectively create results that nobody wants? Nobody wants to increase environmental destruction, poverty, cultural ADHD, or suicide. Yet we keep doing it. Why do we collectively recreate these patterns?

True leadership mindfulness ... transitioning from "me" to "we"!

Graeme Reid's curator insight, February 13, 2014 5:23 PM

A great thought-provoking article.  I get the sense that we are beginning to wake up to our realities of diminishing resources, lack of purpose, unhappiness etc - what is needed is a catalyst to speed up the rate of change.

Davos: Mindfulness, Hotspots, and Sleepwalkers | Leadership Training | Scoop.it
I just returned from the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. I came away with three observations: mindfulness is approaching a tipping point; human energy hotspots are the real attractor; and collective sleepwalkers remain dominant.

Puppies! Now that I’ve got your attention, complexity theory

Animal behavior isn't complicated, but it is complex. Nicolas Perony studies how individual animals -- be they Scottish Terriers, bats or meerkats -- follow simple rules that, collectively, create larger patterns of behavior. And how this complexity born of simplicity can help them adapt to new circumstances, as they arise.

The Bottom Line, The Sharing Economy

The Bottom Line, The Sharing Economy | Leadership Training | Scoop.it

The Sharing Economy is the topic of discussion for Evan Davis & his guests in the first of a new series of The Bottom Line on BBC Radio 4.

The market is built around renting out your possessions to strangers and entrepreneurs have piled in to enable us to share our homes, cars, bikes, clothes, tools and much more besides. At its heart is the idea that business works better if it collaborates, rather than competes, with other companies.

All It Takes Is 10 Mindful Minutes

When is the last time you did absolutely nothing for 10 whole minutes? Not texting, talking or even thinking? Mindfulness expert Andy Puddicombe describes the transformative power of doing just that: Refreshing your mind for 10 minutes a day, simply by being mindful and experiencing the present moment.

A good article for leaders to read today.

(From the article): Being seen as trustworthy is one of the key building blocks towards becoming a great leader. If you fail in this regard, you risk being seen as a hypocrite or inauthentic. Sir John Parker, Chairman of Anglo American was an example of a highly regarded and trusted leader: “Good leaders walk the talk,” he says, “They’re consistent in their behaviour. They live out the words. I can think of no higher risk to a leader’s credibility than not living out the words.”

Scott Span, MSOD's comment, August 14, 2013 10:39 AM
Trust is imperative, it is the foundation of any successful relationship both personal and professional, and trust must be earned.
