Inviting Global Perspectives into the Classroom - November Learning | Leadership to change our schools' cultures for the 21st Century | Scoop.it
Article Produced in Partnership with Cisco Education . As our schools and universities prepare students to make a contribution to the world, it is important to benchmark the emerging critical skills they will need to solve increasingly complex problems.  As we accelerate the speed of moving data and communications around the world, one strategic skill emerges that we traditionally have not taught: global empathy. The "Common Sense" Argument - Will Richardson

The "Common Sense" Argument - Will Richardson | Leadership to change our schools' cultures for the 21st Century | Scoop.it
Last week I spent a chunk of time talking education with a couple of family members, one of whom is a teacher at a “high performing” district in Connecticut. It was a pretty aimless conversation, but it kept coming back to a certain question: “Why do we do that, again?” And a certain response: “It just …

The tipping point can be defined as a collection of subtle moments which become more significant causing a less subtle change. According to our friends at Merriam Webster the definition of tipping point is: the critical point in a situation, process, or system beyond which a significant and often unstoppable effect or change takes place.  In … Continue reading "Getting Past the Tipping Point"

The Risk of Prioritizing Compliance Over Creation

Currently I have a kitchen full of homemade gummy bears, a pumpkin about to be exploded with rubber bands, and a few bowls of things that I am not quite sure what they actually are. Without A Net - Modern Learners

Without A Net - Modern Learners | Leadership to change our schools' cultures for the 21st Century | Scoop.it
In recent times an increasing number of educators are walking the educational tightrope to modern learning. It’s not easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding, and those that make it to the ‘other side’ do so because they don’t look down,  look back, or lament for past practice. Rather they are focused firmly on what is in front …

3 Ways Exponential Technologies are Impacting the Future of Learning

3 Ways Exponential Technologies are Impacting the Future of Learning | Leadership to change our schools' cultures for the 21st Century | Scoop.it

Exponential technologies have a tendency to move from a deceptively slow pace of development to a disruptively fast pace. We often disregard or don’t notice technologies in the deceptive growth phase, until they begin changing the way we live and do business.

Driven by information technologies, products and services become digitized, dematerialized, demonetized and/or democratized and enter a phase of exponential growth.

Nicole Wilson, who was Singularity University’s vice president of faculty and curriculum until last year, believes education technology is currently in a phase of deceptive growth, and we are seeing the beginning of how exponential technologies are impacting 1) what we need to learn, 2) how we view schooling and society and 3) how we will teach and learn in the future.

[Gust MEES] Simply put, as WE (#Schools) DON'T know WHAT THAT world would be, WE SHOULD prepare the #students #LEARNers for <===> #LEARNing2LEARN to become #LifeLongLEARNing persons! Please check my #blog post <===> https://gustmees.wordpress.com/.../teaching-was.../

The 21st century skills and the common 4Cs have been changing and into a new set of  characteristics... .It’s clear that technologies undergoing exponential growth are shaping the skills we need to be successful, how we approach education in the classroom, and what tools we will use in the future to teach and learn.

How Making Thinking Visible Helps Teachers and Students - November Learning

How Making Thinking Visible Helps Teachers and Students - November Learning | Leadership to change our schools' cultures for the 21st Century | Scoop.it
Article Produced in Partnership with Cisco Education . One category of digital tools, making thinking visible, can give students a higher level of confidence to ask questions when they need help, or share their opinions and ideas with the rest of the class — leading to more thoughtful discussions. These same tools inform educators about how to plan for much more meaningful lessons. In the 1980s coming of age movie, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, one of the funniest scenes I remember (perhaps because I was a social studies teacher at the time) is the high school economics class with Ben [...]
