Does (the Use of)Twitter Improve Education?

Does (the Use of)Twitter Improve Education? | Leadership Think Tank | Scoop.it

"There has been post after post acknowledging how educators love Twitter while also encouraging others to use it themselves. With that though comes skeptics (as there should be), questioning whether the use of Twitter is beneficial to educators. I have thought about that question a lot and I can give a definitive answer: yes and no ( I am 100% certain of this).

So to prove this, we have to look at a few things. First off, we have to look at how educators are using Twitter. Simply signing up for Twitter doesn’t improve anything in your classroom (similar to the notion that having a Twitter account will make people do inappropriate things and cyberbully). It all comes down to the use of it. I offer two scenarios in my own use of Twitter below."

8 Tips for the Care & Feeding of the Reluctant Tech User | The Daring Librarian

8 Tips for the Care & Feeding of the Reluctant Tech User | The Daring Librarian | Leadership Think Tank | Scoop.it

The Daring Librarian provides a great post on how to assist the "reluctant tech learner." A key point she makes is the need to have them learn "how to do something with a project about which they're personally passionate."

To gather this information she went out to her Personal Learning Network and asked for suggestions. The post includes 8 tips (which includes the one above) as well as:

* Show and Tell - providing a "digital petting zoo"

* Providing lots of praise

* Small Steps (as in mini session)

It will probably come as no surprise that many of the techniques suggested also work in the classroom.

May I also add Present.Me that allows you to attach a video of yourself presenting to your powerpoint presentation. I use it to send to my class when I cannot be there for their lessons. Genuis.

I agree Charlotte! Present.me is awesome, I use it too. And Prezi, and many more tools.... But that was the author's choice. I like the annotations and tips very much!
