The Tried-and-True Process for Choosing Company Values

The Tried-and-True Process for Choosing Company Values | Leadership Talent Management | Scoop.it
Organizational values help shape your entire company — from the people you hire to the business decisions you make.

And often, companies will skimp on their values. Sure, they'll claim their organization lives their values, when in fact, they're just mere words on the wall. Think about it this way:

You wouldn't start a road trip without a map. Why would you start a company without clear direction?
So before you start thinking of random rules to implement as your company values, take a step back and try a more deliberate approach. This was the approach that TINYpulse's founder and CEO, David Niu, took to come up with our company's values, and from day one, they've been the foundation for everything we do here.

Useful when these are regularly revisited , refreshed and realigned to ensure it reflects strategy and alignment with multi generational and diverse workforce especially when turnover, absenteeism , abscond ions etc  double digits.

Save time and money on leadership and organizational development with a 'flipped classroom' | Leadership Talent Management | Scoop.it
The “flipped classroom” movement started when teachers realized that it was easier for students to watch lectures at home and complete homework with expert assistance in the classroom - flipping the classroom experience.  This is a brilliant idea and should be implemented nationwide here in the USA where nearly everyone has access to technology.  (Maybe our embarrassing STEM challenges could be resolved?)Many organizations have not adopted the iconoclastic 'flipped classroom' approach for traini

When leaders don’t walk the talk of an innovative, competitive, customer-focused organization – one that values integrity, mutual respect, collaboration, accountability, diversity and, most importantly, a positive, supportive, collegial relationship with the employees who make corporate success possible – then the talk becomes meaningless. - Theoretical dream but practical illusion.

Create Mentorships, Not Minions

Create Mentorships, Not Minions | Leadership Talent Management | Scoop.it
Today, the traditional paradigm in which a charismatic executive leads an adoring, less-senior employee where power is often misaligned won’t do, explained executive coaching expert Wendy Mantel of Mantel Coaching Inc. Millennials want close, meaningful relationships with mentors. They also want to feel empowered to be authentic, to create and embody their own career brands.

“Engagement, learning, growth, visibility, relevance and opportunity are watchwords for this generation,” Mantel said in an email. These needs are also important guiding words for learning organizations developing new, or rethinking, established, mentoring approaches.

Authentic Leadership Rediscovered

Authentic Leadership Rediscovered | Leadership Talent Management | Scoop.it
In spite of widespread acceptance of authentic leadership—or perhaps because of it—several authors have recently challenged the value of being authentic, claiming it is an excuse for being locked into a rigid view of one’s leadership, being rude and insensitive, refusing to change, or not adapting to one’s style to the situation. These arguments appear to demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding of what constitutes an authentic leader. Recommendations that leaders should accept narcissism, embrace their inner jerk, or focus on themselves will not work in the long-run.
In light of this public discussion, it’s important to rediscover authentic leadership as well as examine some of the recent mischaracterizations of it.

Via David Hain
John Ludike's insight:

Very true often authentic leadership and associated behavioural fads purely replaces one set of labels, prejudices and biases with new in vogue language. New generation workforce, millennials etc see through this as reflected in engagement, trust and respect " scores" of many in company culture duvets etc
