London2012 Inspired Take-Aways. #1 Take Pride In Being Yourself. | Leadership, Organizations and Performance Excellence | Scoop.it

London2012 is being hailed as one of the best for female athletes given it was the first time every Nation had a female athlete to represent them. An important milestone indeed. So for that reason, I have decided to write a handful of posts on those female athletes that inspired me and I am calling these posts “My London2012 Inspired Take-Aways.

As there seems to be a lot of discussion in the media on the topic of a woman’s hair lately, I have decided to kick-off with Joanna Rowsell that to me demonstrates the Take-Away of Being Yourself.

Entrepreneurship Is The New Women's Movement - Forbes

Entrepreneurship Is The New Women's Movement - Forbes | Leadership, Organizations and Performance Excellence | Scoop.it
Women are leaving the workforce in droves in favor of being at home. Not to be a homemaker, but as job-making entrepreneurs.

Women have been starting businesses at a higher rate than men for the last 20 years and tend to create home-based micro (less than 5 employees) and small businesses. Women will create over half of the 9.72 million new small business jobs expected to be created by 2018 and more and more are doing this from home offices across the country. It’s a surprising statistic, especially considering that women-owned businesses only created 16 percent of total U.S. jobs that existed in 2010.

16 Characteristics of The Social Workplace | Social Media Pearls

16 Characteristics of The Social Workplace | Social Media Pearls | Leadership, Organizations and Performance Excellence | Scoop.it

There are no shortage of headlines in the media about some employee’s social media account and what the employer did or did not do. Is this really representative of what social media means in the workplace? Not at all!

One tool or platform does not make an organization social. It is not just about the tools- especially in isolation of the bigger picture. Well at least it ought not be. Sensational headlines just feed the fear of those with a  social media phobia.  What organizations and businesses should be thinking about is how can they leverage this new way of doing business.

Social media and the new technologies of today have totally changed how we work, communicate, interact, collaborate and relate to each other.  Business leaders need to rethink how to take their organization to the next level and consequently “enable” their staff  to succeed in this new environment- our new reality.

Learning The Softer Side Of Leadership

Learning The Softer Side Of Leadership | Leadership, Organizations and Performance Excellence | Scoop.it

Leaders' primary objective is to empower others to make decisions and take actions that are aligned with the organization’s vision, purpose, and strategy. These nuances are the softer side of leadership, beyond the technical skills that you have already mastered.

Leadership is the "eighth wonder of the world." It is better seen and felt than defined and said. It’s easy to intellectualize, but elusive to actualize.

The world’s most impactful leaders in all arenas, from business to government, understand the paradox that although leadership starts with the leader, it’s never about the leader. This wisdom should be emulated and applied by everyone who aspires to leadership.

6 Critical Tips For Telling Your Story | Social Media Pearls

6 Critical Tips For Telling Your Story | Social Media Pearls | Leadership, Organizations and Performance Excellence | Scoop.it

It seems that no matter where I went over the past few months, the art of storytelling has been top of mind. Storytelling is instrumental when delivering a message, sharing aspirations or when trying to mobilize people.

Does Global Business Leadership Standards Exist?

Does Global Business Leadership Standards Exist? | Leadership, Organizations and Performance Excellence | Scoop.it
I have been in so many “global organizations” where they use the term global and what it really means is wherever the head office resides ( be it UK, US, Canada, Japan- wherever), the way the business will be conducted in other countries, will be the same as the head office country. So their interpretation of global is that we are doing business IN that country -not WITH that county. Wrong!...
