Leadership Courage: Creating A Culture Where People Feel Safe To Take Risks | LEADERSHIP IS BEHAVIOUR | Scoop.it
The human ingenuity within any organisation are it's greatest competitive advantage. Yet according to the latest statistics, over half of todays workers are disengaged . When leaders are committed and actively working to engage, inspire and embolden – they unleash untapped potential and raise the bar not just on productivity, but on the value their organization contributes to all stakeholders.

Tony Palmeri's curator insight, October 24, 2015 12:40 PM

"...Human ingenuity within any organization is it's greatest competitive advantage". This quote alone made me scoop this resource. How do we tap into the resource that is our staff? Engaging with them in the classroom and in the hallways to build communication capacity is important. Inspiring staff to take risks is a tricky enterprise - leaders must value this sort of behavior. This means that attempts which result in failure must be cherished, not scrutinized as they often tend to be.

Dr. Deborah Brennan's curator insight, May 18, 2015 3:09 PM

A critical skill in leadership is the responsibility,it's for decisions made and results achieved. We must remember to share the glory, but take responsibility when so things don't go well. A true leader empowers people to take risks to solve problems and create processes. They review plans in order to be informed and use their experience to provide feedback and guidance. They must be the cheerleaders for people on the front line and find ways to celebrate even small steps of progress. They must shine the spotlight on others,  when things go awry they must shoulder the burden themselves and not deflect blame Onto their subordinates.  That is true empowerment

Dr. Deborah Brennan's curator insight, May 24, 2015 5:03 PM

It is easy for a leader to feel the pressure for high student achievement and give in to micro-management.  This micro-management actually undermines their overal goal of increasing student achievement.  Hire the best teachers, provide a structure and time for the, to collaborate, engage them in collectI've decision making and empower them to provide theor best instruction.  The results...and a leader's goal achievement will follow

So what is Appreciative Inquiry anyway?

Have you ever heard the following phrase?

‘People join organizations, but leave managers.’

Would you say you are the type of manager people leave or the type of leader that people stay for and want to work with?

Are you trying to solve the problem with your staff or are you including them in creating a better reality?

Do your employees trust you? How do you know?

Happiness and Trust

In a recent podcast with David Hain, Director of Transformation Partners, based in Cardiff, Wales, we discussed some scary statistics about the declining level of trust in organizations around the world as well as the benefits of happiness and trust in the work place. We then explored how the Appreciative Inquiry model can be used as a way to not only develop trust, but to inspire others.

The biggest shift happening in remarkable workplaces and a necessity in the new world of work is that people management is a dead concept. (From the article): How can you be more intentional? Hall frames intentionality in her own work in eight words that guide each of her interactions: “I want it to matter that we met.” And it should matter for both her and the person she is meeting. There is an implied flexibility in the time horizon; it may matter immediately or several years down the road. Challenge yourself: “I want it to matter that I hold this position,” or “I want it to matter that I am your boss.” How does this affect how you will show up to deliver short-term results and create long-term impact?
