Challenging one's self is questioning what we hold as assumptions and givens. Karen Barad suggests rather than reflecting we should be diffracting and looking for differences. What did not go well is often more important than what went well. When was the last time you heard a School managers ask, "We learn from our mistakes?" We hear it all the time, but little changes. We are simply moving deck chairs around rather than making substantial structural change.

Why Trust is the New Core of Leadership

Why Trust is the New Core of Leadership | Leadership | Scoop.it
Not long ago, most discussions of leadership were about leaders – their personality traits, how to identify and groom those with ‘leadership potential,’ and what were the skills that leaders employed.

Successful leadership – genuinely be yourself

Successful leadership – genuinely be yourself | Leadership | Scoop.it

‘What does it take to be successful in top leadership?’, I’m asked by a client about to step up to an MD-on-the-board role. And I found my usual coach approach of ‘empower the client to discover’ went right out the window. ‘If you really want to lead with style’, I said, ‘then genuinely be yourself’.

Optimal Promotion | Sandra Pace's curator insight, March 5, 2014 8:27 AM

It comes down to authenticity. If you can be true to yourself, activating the core of who you are first, others will see and appreciate your strength.  It reminds  me of mat pilates, where every move is activated first from the core.  That develops focused strength... And, in this case, maybe a six-pack of leadership muscles.

Really identify with #5:

Develop the squeezed middle: Once a business grows and a middle management tier emerges, these are the people who can make or break growth. They are submerged by the instructions from above and the demands from below and unless their skills are developed, the culture is collaborative and the direction clear, they will drown. Identifying the skill and personal development needs of these individuals to help them become future leaders can catapult your capacity to a new level.

Six Leadership Styles by Daniel Goleman

Six Leadership Styles by Daniel Goleman | Leadership | Scoop.it

Daniel Goleman, in his article “Leadership That Gets Results”, has identified six different leadership styles, and he believes that good leaders will adopt one of these six styles to meet the needs of different situations.

None of the six leadership styles by Daniel Goleman are right or wrong – each may be appropriate depending on the specific context. Whilst one of the more empathetic styles is most likely to be needed to build long-term commitment, there will be occasions when a commanding style may need to be called upon, for example, when a rapid and decisive response is required.
