Good leaders need to be able to vary their leadership style and move between the styles mentioned here in response to the prevailing situation. Leaders, when in doubt – ask the right questions

Are you confused and concerned? Do you lack the confidence to move forward? Ask the right questions and you will understand.

donhornsby's curator insight, November 20, 2014 10:36 AM

When you lack confidence: You aren’t sure which road to take because you don’t know if the company is heading for the same destination as you once thought. If you knew the vision you would diligently pursue it. Rest assured, you will lead without fear once again. Ask the right questions and you will understand.

“Confidence comes not from always being right, but from not fearing to be wrong.”-  Peter T. Mcintyre

If you are feeling confused, concerned and don’t have that old confidence anymore because things have changed, here’s what you do: Ask the right questions and you will understand.

Because they were passionate about their work, long-haul leaders had a strong work ethic. They did what was necessary to get the job done. They were not clock punchers. Because they so loved their work, they hardly saw their vocation as work. It was fun and rewarding.

What Will Leadership Look Like In 20 Years?

What Will Leadership Look Like In 20 Years? | Leadership | Scoop.it

If we don’t get leadership right, all the bright shiny objects in the future will dangle beyond our reach. Will the tenets of great leadership change over time, and if so, what will leadership look like twenty years from now?

donhornsby's curator insight, November 4, 2014 8:14 AM

Purpose is important for leaders today. It will become increasingly vital in the future. We are entering a great age of empowerment for both employees and customers. Employees will demand the right to choose who they work for, which tribes they join and which products they associate with. Purpose will be the basis of much of this choice, and the greatest leaders will rally around missions that offer the chance to have dramatic positive impact.

Kimberley Richardson's curator insight, November 5, 2014 9:56 AM

Your values will define your purpose.  That's why values-based leadership is and always will be, so important.

Take a Look at Yourself in the Leadership Mirror

Take a Look at Yourself in the Leadership Mirror | Leadership | Scoop.it

How we see ourselves is often very different from how we appear to others. Actions we believe reflect decisive or confident characteristics may come across as controlling or arrogant while attempts at openness may be perceived as being indecisive or weak. Understanding how supervisors, co-workers, direct reports and clients perceive us can give valuable insights into our leadership behavior and help us become more effective leaders, better able to embrace and adapt to change.

Simon Sinek: These Are the 3 Most Valuable Leadership Traits

What are the top qualities of great leaders? It's not a great mystery, said Simon Sinek at the World Business Forum on Wednesday. As the motivational speaker and author explained, it really boils down to three things: selflessness, empathy, and an ability to manage anxiety on your team. Here is a look at each trait, and why it is so valuable for you to cultivate.

Leadership & Creating an Environment of Service

Leadership & Creating an Environment of Service | Leadership | Scoop.it

A lot has been said about the leader as “servant”. I expect, given that it is a relatively young term (having been ‘born’ in 1970), it is also subject to wide interpretation. As such, while some people will experience great results from their efforts to serve, others will consider it a fad that will go away if they ignore it. Still others will make every effort to embrace the notion of the Servant Leader but find themselves exhausted, confused and possibly resentful because people seem to be walking all over them.

So what to do?
