To Be a Great Leader You Must be a Great Follower

To Be a Great Leader You Must be a Great Follower | Leadership | Scoop.it

Another great one from Don!

Garth Sanginiti's curator insight, October 31, 2013 9:57 PM

To be an effective leader you must have vision but also demostrate submissiveness, humility, and a willingness to follow.  True leadership is relational and inspires people to be the best they can be.  As stated in the article, "Leadership and vision are two things that come naturally to some people, not all. Fortunately, it’s a skill that can be developed in time. It’s not about growing your technical expertise but about learning how to inspire and motivate people."

John Michel's curator insight, November 1, 2013 11:38 AM

All great leaders in today’s society had to start somewhere. If you’re trying to become one, just make sure you have what it takes to be a follower first. Learn from the vast experience of your superiors, master their skills, and adapt their styles to your personality. Leadership skills can be learned, and as long as you have a great teacher, chances are you’ll become a great leader yourself someday.

Jerry Busone's curator insight, April 21, 12:28 PM

I deplore mediocrity ... However mediocrity is a symptom of ineffective leadership, not bad.... Setting clear expectations, rallying people around KPIs they believe in, developing a peer accountability and speak your mind when you see poor performance are a few ways around it..... either way its up to YOU the leader to handle it . donhornsby's curator insight, June 20, 7:47 AM
As a visionary leader, you need to be your organization’s oracle, driving its performance down a pioneering path into the future. To be a positive, transformational leader you need a clear vision if your organization is going to survive and thrive. But you and the vision are indistinguishable. Without a clear vision, you won’t last. And without a visionary leader, neither will the vision.
