Handwritten notes are one of the most important (and impactful) tools a leader can use. One of my clients (a senior leader at an aeronautical engineering company) was surprised when he walked into an office of a former direct report to find his note framed. The former DR told him that note kept him from quiting the team numerous times because he felt appreciated and valued.
