Transformational Leadership: Darren Lehmann helps transform ‘no hopers’ into Ashes winners - The Sport In Mind – Sport Psychology

Transformational Leadership: Darren Lehmann helps transform ‘no hopers’ into Ashes winners - The Sport In Mind – Sport Psychology | Leadership - 3.8 | Scoop.it
Lehmann’s style of leadership would appear to fit the ‘transformational’ concept perfectly as he created an environment where the Australian players felt comfortable. The players bought into his ideas and this winter’s 5-0 whitewash of England is testament to the major change in their attitude . His style was a far cry from the methods of his predecessor, Mickey Arthur, who used a more ‘transactional’ method where the focus was on tasks and rules. For example, before his departure, Arthur suspended several senior Australian players for failing to complete a homework task, whereas Lehmann preferred to emphasise the importance of co-operation among team members to complete tasks and how individual contributions are for the good of the team.

They did learn the buzzwords, and they know what is in the air in the mainstream management literature, that's for sure... they are stars and, of course, visionaries... they say, leading and managing are different but they are helluva good managers as well about their closed circle and that's management about, it's pretty sure too... However, it would be very interesting to have also a 360 review about their activities to see more clearly...:-)))

Absolutely Scott. I remember when I used to think my gen was the best thing since sliced bread, now I have to remind myself my gen does not know it all :)
Garth Sanginiti's curator insight, August 14, 2013 8:48 PM

While there are many qualities that distinguish millennials from other generations, "One of the key things to remember, he [the author] said, is that millennials are highly collaborative."  However, collaborative doesn't mean they are skilled at communicating, at least outside of today's common social media forums.  Generation Y also appreciates transparency.  Good points to consider in today's blended workforce.
