Renovating a "rustico" in Le Marche: The plumber finally arrived

Renovating a "rustico" in Le Marche: The plumber finally arrived | Le Marche Properties and Accommodation | Scoop.it

The plumber finally arrived last Tuesday! ("He's the best", says Paolo). We know this prodigy has arrived because the "new" internal walls have all been hacked almost to ruins, and multi-coloured pipes criss-cross the floors like elaborate sketches for a prototype man-trap.

Outside, yet more menacing pipes have been laid in deep trenches leading from the house to an adjacent field further down the hill. There are 2 tracks of pipes, one for black water (sewerage) which flows to a septic tank, and one for white water from gutters, sinks et al. (Fascinating, huh?)

Stefano and his mate are back on site choreographing 2 diggers - to make the channels; to place the septic tank; and then to refill the holes.

Meanwhile, up at the annexe, the cement mixer returns with a new load to fill the "cordolo" (a cordon) which secures the wooden beams in the roof, effectively holding the structure together. The reclaimed "coppi" (roof tiles) sit patiently to one side, watching cement dry.

These works are dependant upon dry weather. The Gods are smiling on us this October day, the sun is shining, the temperature has reached 25 degrees. But, proverbially speaking, we need more than one day.

Paolo walks us up to a high point on our plot of land. "From here," he booms over the engine of the cement-mixer, "the symmetry of the house can be viewed at its most pleasing." If you close off all other senses and avoid looking down at the sewage channels, you might be inclined to agree.

Accommodation in Le Marche: Agriturismo

Accommodation in Le Marche: Agriturismo | Le Marche Properties and Accommodation | Scoop.it

Agriturismo - a combination of the words for "agriculture" and "tourism" in Italian - is a style of farmhouse vacation that is suitable for the whole family. In some agriturismos there is even the possibility to get involved in the day to day working of the land – a great experience for both adults and children.

An agriturismo is based upon produce from its own land; be it food, olive oil or wine - everything comes from the local area and this is what you will be eating and drinking. There is also the huge benefit of living with and getting to know the real Italians and the traditions which have dictated their lives for centuries.

However, this is not a basic holiday; many agriturismos are of the highest standards and have luxurious rooms, restaurants, swimming pools etc – you choose exactly what you want for the premium Italian experience.

Accommodation in Le Marche: Country Houses

Accommodation in Le Marche: Country Houses | Le Marche Properties and Accommodation | Scoop.it

The Country House holiday is an unique opportunity to live life as the Italians do in their beautiful countryside. Here one can watch as rural life goes by, eat the local food in the many restaurants or even buy the ingredients in local markets and prepare the dishes in the kitchen of your country house or apartment. Staying in a country house gives the chance to participate in all the cultural activities in your chosen area – religious festivals, food festivals (called Sagras – these abound in August throughout Le Marche), classical and modern concerts are just a few of the events. There are many local crafts still being practised, producing exquisite articles to be treasured.

The type of accommodation is very varied – it may be a whole house to accommodate a large family or group of friends or there are smaller homes or apartments available in larger premises which have been subdivided. Some properties provide swimming pools, large grounds etc – the choice is yours.
Whatever you choose though you can be sure of a most relaxing stay and a clear insight into the real Italy.

Le Marche Accommodation Reviews: L’Arca di Noe, Senigallia

Le Marche Accommodation Reviews: L’Arca di Noe, Senigallia | Le Marche Properties and Accommodation | Scoop.it

L’Arca di Noe and was labeled “country house” in the tourist guide. It is located in the countryside of Senigallia, meaning less then ten minutes by car to the centre of town and even shorter, about 5 minutes, to the long sandy beaches. We still managed to get lost though. Well actually the GPS managed to get lost. The place is in the middle of nowhere. You will absolutely need a car to stay there.

room in the main house. Very nice, clean and comfortable. The other was a cute round garden house, going under the name of La Pagoda.

It made me think of a Mongolian Yurt as it was round, with windows all around, and had a very natural feel to it. It really felt more like a tent then like a house but still it had airco (great as it was 39 degrees that day), a small fridge and 5 beds. I loved the decoration which was casual but smart.

There is no real reception but it’s more of a table with some paperwork on it in a sitting area of the main house. The country house is more of a house then a hotel. The “reception” is closed in the afternoons and the restaurant is closed outside the actual meals.

The restaurant is in that same main building. You are served breakfast here and you can have dinner if you wish. The breakfast is mainly homemade and fresh (figs from the garden and homemade cake!). The dinner was good but very rich. Better be used to having food with lots of cream and butter if you eat here. The food is simple and traditional.

Accommodation Le Marche: Valle del Metauro, Montemaggiore al Metauro

Accommodation Le Marche: Valle del Metauro, Montemaggiore al Metauro | Le Marche Properties and Accommodation | Scoop.it

Although submerged in the green hills that flank the Metauro River Valley, The Metauro Valley Country House is the ideal place for people who love to live a period of rest marked by quality and naturalness, an oasis of tranquility and well-being ready to welcome you all over the year.

Born from the renovation of the old family farmhouse, the Metauro Valley Country House offers you warm and comfortable rooms full of charm and atmosphere, respecting the local rural tradition; natural and essential materials as the old terracotta tiles, wood and wrought iron are the elements to which we have given priority during the careful and painstaking restoration work.
Located in intermediate position between the Furlo Gorge and the city of Fano, precisely in the municipality of Montemaggiore al Metauro (197 meters on the sea level), our Country House is really close to important cities of art (Urbino 25 km) and to the entertainment of the Adriatic Coast (40 Km Rimini, Pesaro 18 Km, Fano 10 Km).

The ideal location allows the retrieval of all excellent "raw materials" typical of the local gastronomy, from the precious truffle of Acqualagna to the excellent fish of the Adriatic Sea, to the good meat reared in the Montefeltro region, wines and oils produced in the surrounding hills.

Villa giardino Buonaccorsi: Now You Can Live Here!!!

Villa giardino Buonaccorsi: Now You Can Live Here!!! | Le Marche Properties and Accommodation | Scoop.it

Potenza Picena, in the heart of central Italy, in the province of Le Marche — one of the most peaceful, beautiful, and undisturbed regions on the peninsula, and perhaps the nation's best-kept secret — lies a hidden jewel: the nearly 6 hectare Renaissance estate known as Villa Buonaccorsi.
The exclusive property of the family of the Counts of the Buonaccorsi from 1582 until 1969, the walled estate, perched high on a hilltop surrounded by exquisite horizons and rolling green hills studded with walled towns and valleys sloping gently toward the nearby Adriatic coastline, has retained not only its original character but, perhaps as importantly, its full architectural and botanical splendor and function.
The 8,000 sq. m. five-tiered garden is one of the finest examples, stilt extant and fully functional, of the magnificentfy landscaped classic Italian garden, replete with greenhouse, statues, grottos, and unusual water displays. In the adjacent private woods, once used for bird-snaring, are rustic foot bridges over a stocked fish pond, charming clearings with stone benches for tete-a-tetes, and the thick, high-tree vegetation typical of the region.
The buildings on the property, from the graceful Villa to the stables, private chapel, servants' quarters, garages, workshops, and the garden's puppet theater and greenhouse comprise an outstanding example of the self-sufficiency of Italian country estate life.
The property, a small, autonomous village in itself, boasts an olive oil press, large kitchens with bakeries and ovens, granaries, warehouses, carpentry and other craft workshops, garages, and more. The private main road leading from a gate off the State highway to the villa extends as a service road around the inner circumference of the estate walls. All areas, levels and buildings are interconnected by a varied network of paths, stone steps, and secondary roads.

August holiday Le Marche

August holiday Le Marche | Le Marche Properties and Accommodation | Scoop.it

Another trip to Le Marche, this time in August, and this time we saw it as both a proper holiday and a chance to suss out how others there are running their B&Bs.

We split the week in two halves; the first 3 nights were spent in a lovely place with fantastic views and wonderful pool, very near Montegiorgio. The final 4 nights were spent at a place near Comunanza - so much nearer the mountains.

The Montegiorgio place (Casa San Ruffino) was considerably more expensive than the other B&B, but they'd done a fantastic job with the renovation and the room was lovely. The only gripe I have was the bed was slightly too small and as much as it was beautiful, it lacked what I can only describe as soul - for some reason it felt disconnected with the surrounding land. The couple running it were very welcoming and I couldn't fault how helpful they were, but I got the sense they didn't feel as passionate about the area as we do. Having said all that, it is somewhere I'd consider staying again, but only if we were heading over with friends that had certain high expectations (you know who you are!).

The nice thing about staying somewhere new was that we got to discover some new places to eat and so our list has now grown considerably.

Moving on after 3 nights was nice, but I was slightly apprehensive about what the next place would hold (The Hideaway, or Il Nascondiglio), as it was less than half the price of the Montegiorgio B&B.

After following some detailed instructions on how to reach their place - I thought it was going to be a bunch of dodgy white roads, so was pleased to find they were pretty easy to navigate tarmaced roads - we pulled up and were greeted by the lovely Sarah and Mark, and they're funny little old dog Rusty.

A bottle of cold white wine and some homemade cakes greeted us in our room, and then we were shown the outside space with BBQ, which I immediately got rather excited about (one thing I miss when on holiday is cooking). Mark told us that they had a glut of tomatoes and that we could help ourselves to as many as we wanted, along with any herbs and salad bits growing in the garden. That was me sold; I was in heaven.

Mark and Sarah (by sheer coincidence, exactly the same ages as me and Mike) clearly have a real connection with Le Marche, which makes staying there a much more rounded experience. Great advice on what to do, where to eat, where to go for walks... it was all put down in a delightful handwritten book that Sarah had clearly spent hours lovingly piecing together.

We ended up eating with them a coupe of evenings - sitting outside, listening to the owls and watching the bats come out - and quizzed them in great detail on how they renovated their place, how they run it, what business is like, and what their lives in Le Marche are like.

B&B no.1 was a lovely up-market place to stay, but B&B no.2 really did it for me. It was tough to leave, but it looks like we might have made a nice connection with a couple that have been on a similar journey to us, and are happy to help out or advise where they can.

We'll definitely be back.
