Tod's Spring 2014 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Tod's Spring 2014 Ready-to-Wear Collection | Le Marche & Fashion | Scoop.it

Tod's, the crown jewel in Diego Della Valle's fashion empire, has long had a ready-to-wear component. Back when the American Derek Lam was designing it, the clothes were a small part of the brand's seasonal presentation. But with Alessandra Facchinetti at the helm as creative director since February, the label's ambitions are bigger. A familiar name from her days as a designer at Valentino and Gucci, Facchinetti staged her first show for Tod's this afternoon, and it was an impressive outing.

"Well, that was the best show we saw all day," a nearby editor said. Indeed it was, not only because of Facchinetti's playful riffs on the house's famous pebble-soled gommino loafer (the extra-long fringe was a fun touch), but also because of the clothes, which had a quotidian sex appeal that will really speak to women. Take, for example, the humble shirtdress, which she finessed the hell out of. In brick red cotton laser-cut in an eyelet pattern, it wasn't actually humble at all, but it retained its everydayness, which is key. Meanwhile, we'd bet that any number of high-profile types in the crowd would've happily exchanged what they were wearing for the double-breasted pantsuits that trotted down the runway. Be honest, ladies, how many other Milan shows can you say that about? [...]

Tod's puts best foot forward with inaugural runway show featuring clean, classic looks

Tod's puts best foot forward with inaugural runway show featuring clean, classic looks | Le Marche & Fashion | Scoop.it

Tod's inaugural runway show during Milan Fashion Week was clean and classic.

Alessandra Facchinetti's first collection for Tod's, after stints at MiuMiu, Gucci and Valentino, drew heavily on the fashion house's built-in mastery of leatherwork, but the collection stood on its own and was not merely an extension of the footwear and must-have bags that have made the label an Italian fashion leader.

The looks, which previewed Friday on the third day of Milan Fashion Week, included staples for any woman's closet: voluminous A-line and straight pencil skirts, crisp cotton shirts with oversized collars and long tails, and the classic women's double-breasted suit, with trousers or loose cropped pants.

Facchinetti accessed a retro vibe as evidenced by the mod leather capes and jackets in bold blocks of colour — rust, ochre and white — that the show notes said were inspired by 1950s ceramics.

And she put her signature on the collection with laser cut patterns on voluminous A-line leather skirts, paired with fresh button-down cotton shirt and pulled together by wrap around fringed-belt that projected the confidence of someone who can face frontiers alone. The designer also inverted emphasis, pairing a feminine white eyelet cotton blouse with a bold colour block pencil skirt.

As one would expect from Tod's, there was no dearth of footwear, including heels with famous pebbled driving shoe soles, flat woven sandals and soft fringed moccasins pretty enough for a dress. Bags included folded over purses, big weekend bags with oversized fringe and mini evening bags with spikey accents.

Santoni, Le Marche, the Shoes | Clever Clogs

Santoni, Le Marche, the Shoes | Clever Clogs | Le Marche & Fashion | Scoop.it

I am a shoe snob. The majority of my footwear is made by Eric Cook, a genius by whom I have had the privilege of being shod for the last 20 or so years, but I had met Giuseppe Santoni a few times and he had impressed me with his attention to detail and the stylish masculinity of his shoes and accessories. So I was delighted to make the trek to the Marche on the Adriatic coast of Italy to visit the Santoni shoe factory.

The Marche is one of the areas that boomed after the Second World War, becoming the shoemaking heartland of Italy, attracting workers from the land, among them a 14-year-old Andrea Santoni who rose quickly to be a factory foreman. By 1975 he was in his mid thirties and, with 20 years' experience in the business, he decided that he wanted to do things differently.

In the Seventies, the Marche bragging rights between factory bosses were secured by claiming the highest annual production figures, a statement of modernity as opposed to the old slow artisanal ways. But Giuseppe's father saw a third way, one that was built around quality rather than quantity yet took advantage of the best of both the old and the modern methods. He started his own factory in the garage of his house with five workers.

The best Santoni shoes are about as close as it is possible for a factory-made shoe to get to being entirely bespoke: hand-sewn soles, precious skins, prismatic colour choice, the lot. But as well as this elite section of production there is a full range of men's shoes from stout Goodyear-constructed lace-ups, through feathery silken slippers and driving shoes made for Mercedes AMG to highly superior sneakers. To bring high-quality traditional shoemaking techniques into the manufacture of sports shoes is eccentric to the point of being slightly insane, but that is the point of Santoni - a level of quality and innovation that exceeds expectations. Quality control is impressive. [...]

Franceschetti, Classic revisited for the for the new Spring/Summer 2014 Collection

Franceschetti, Classic revisited for the for the new Spring/Summer 2014 Collection | Le Marche & Fashion | Scoop.it

In Milan, from 15 to 18 of September, Franceschetti presented the new SS2014 collection.

Classic, yes! But extremely actual, revised, detailed, made recognizable and unique. To classical evergreen style, we added innovative elements, stylish and uncommon details. The shoe get dressed of an unmistakable sophistication, modern dynamism, sober elegance. Details draw the style: stitchings, drillings, wingtips with perforated decorations. Slight lines, bold cuts, round forms. Leathers are baby calf and suede, with warm tones. Sand, leather color, ocher, light brown and chocolate are the dominant colours, but there is also space for grey, blue, beige and sage. For the “Limited Edition”, infills by hand, dyed and shaded on natural skins. The upper is painted by hand, as if to make a work of art!

Classical renewed also for 999 Sporty Project by Franceschetti, born as a redesign and transformation of a historic shoe of the company in a leisure shoe. Sewed with Blake Rapid Method, it has an E.V.A. sole, extremely light and comfortable, with colored midsole, tone-on-tone with the upper. For the SS2014 season, the proposed models are a lace-up shoe and a moccasin. The upper in Suede is lined in natural calfskin printed fancy. Main colors: red earth and sand for printing savannah, sage for the floreal and blue and jeans for the sea ones. Colors and patterns that evoke intensely nature.

And finally the Franceschetti “Visionnaire” collection, the most important innovation of the season. It is the transposition of classical and sober models in more aggressive and youthful lasts: it has a quiet japanese taste and style. Contraposition of the volumes and exaltation of the details renew the image of the traditional product of the company in a very original way. For the uppers, predominant is the use of horses and buffalo leathers; for soles, double leather soles, sewed with Blake Rapid method. The brown shades, with their warm and dense tones, are the predominant colors, together with black and beige minimal chic.
