Tod's D.D.Bag - The making of an Icon

To celebrate the launch of its new D.D. Bag, and to highlight the special artisanal skills and craftsmanship involved in its construction, Tod's is pleased to announce the release of a 3D video that brings the story of this remarkable new bag to life.
Based around the flight of a group of butterflies, symbols of profound metamorphosis, conceived by the Italian artist Mauro Seresini, the film charts the journey of these delicate insects as they visit Italy's most famous landmarks. In Venice, Tuscany, Capri and Rome's Piazza di Spagna and Pantheon they collect golden tools with which they will eventually assemble a beautiful D.D. Bag.
It's a dreamy and romantic fantasy designed to express the artistry of Made in Italy that lies at the heart of Tod's leatherwork.

Tod's Fancy Footwear in Milan

Tod's Fancy Footwear in Milan | Le Marche & Fashion | Scoop.it

There was the distinct impression that the designers at Tod’s, the luxury footwear label, have been paying attention to recent trends in footwear. At the company’s spring presentation, which was held at an opulent 1930s mansion that is now a museum, a display of loafers came with surprisingly colorful soles, including versions in yellow, burnt orange and green, reflecting a recent trend in men’s shoes.

Other options included desert boots in pastel suede and the flat streamlined slippers favored by Italian editors over the last year. (While the popular look around the shoes has been a leopard print slipper, also worn by men, the Tod’s version was shown with cabana stripes.) The company also has a new collection that it is describing as couture, which includes some wild takes on its signature driving shoes and handbags, now covered in more beaded rocks than pebbles.

In another room was the final collection designed by Derek Lam for Tod’s...

Tod's: the real made in Italy - Vogue.it

Tod's: the real made in Italy - Vogue.it | Le Marche & Fashion | Scoop.it
An important brand, a dynamic business, a great family. In a word – Tod's.

To Tod’s the quality of the products has the absolute priority and is keen on showing the world the competitive edge of the brand; for this reason it has invited the representatives of Vogue Italia, Vogue Russia, Vogue Spain and Vogue Germany to a two-day stay in Sant' Elpidio a Mare, a town in the province of Fermo in the Marche region, taking them on a visit through the impressive historic structure where all of Tod’s, Hogan, Fay and Roger Vivier products come to life.

Tucked in a green area in the industrial area of Brancadoro, the company’s buildings of the creator of the iconic gommino rubber dotted sole, Diego Della Valle, offer everybody not only a working space but also the cosy atmosphere of a home.

Spacious and well lit, the building welcomes staff and visiting guests to an area enriched with numerous works of contemporary art inspired by the brand’s aesthetics and the structure of its products, all of which were specifically commissioned and are much loved by the owner.

Every detail of this fantastic place conveys the attention for details that characterizes Tod’s as a brand and its products; indeed, each department of the company, starting from the fashion office as well as the pattern making, prototype and production departments all live up to the reputation that the company has built for itself through the years.

Visiting the leather quality control department within production is a speechless experience; equally incredible was getting to know Tony, the trustworthy partner and old-time friend to Mr. Della Valle who has been working for the company for years and knows every single material being used to create a Tod’s product inside out and with passion in his voice says “you always learn something new”.

Made in Italy manufacturing and the concept itself are very dear to Tod’s, in fact the strength of the company is being able to rely on the expertise of true artisan masters who turn out handmade products that are, nowadays, the real luxury.

Della Valle personally oversees all production processes and follows through any new concept being elaborated so as to develop the company to the best of its potential. Recently, within the firm buildings a new area has been created fitted with photos, videos and everything related to the collections and the advertising campaigns created by Tod’s brand through the years.

Diego Della Valle and the Art of Wearing Things the "Wrong" Way

Diego Della Valle and the Art of Wearing Things the "Wrong" Way | Le Marche & Fashion | Scoop.it

Some guys shop with patience of Job, waiting months and diligently scouring sale sections for just the right deal. On the other hand, there are those guys that regularly pour out a small fortune just to look like they found their clothes in a dumpster. Most of us probably fall somewhere in between, splurging and scrimping from time to time. And then, there’s Diego Della Valle, a man that simply dresses like pure opulence. Of course, it helps that Della Valle is the CEO of a little company called Tod’s footwear so he pretty much dresses up to his title, but when it comes to Della Valle, as with so many other Italian icons (a pack lead that’s lead by Gianni Agnelli who helped elevate Tod’s to another level when he wore them back in the day) how you wear it is often far more important than what you wear. In fact, Della Valle’s clothes themselves are not particularly remarkable (although he is a great template for proper fit, particularly for bigger guys) mainly focusing on blue shirts, navy or grey jackets, washed denim and of course Tod’s.
Aside from how he carries himself underneath this uniform, what I love about Della Valle’s style is that he often wears things outside of their intended purpose. What I mean by this is that Della Valle seems to love the unconventional add-on, taking a basic piece and re-imagining it by placing it somewhere else within an outfit. Now I’m not talking about going off the deep end, such the absolutely heinous Eldredge knot which I can’t believe I’m even mentioning right now, but Della Valle’s “wrong” combinations actually work in my mind. First off is the “scarf-as-a-tie” look, which admittedly only a man of Della Valle’s stature (and I mean that socially, economically, and physically) really could pull off, but nonetheless it’s something that I can’t help but admire. The way Della Valle wears it, with a raised collar and a solid scarf tied loosely to the front in a manner that is brash, but not too ostentatious. It reminds me of an elderly man I saw a few months who had tucked his scarf into his cardigan as if to say “I don’t care what you think, it’s my damn scarf after all.”
As I said, this look clearly isn’t for everyone, I certainly probably won’t be giving it a shot for at least a few decades, but Della Valle’s other atypical inclination is one that you will likely see me wearing this spring, and that’s the “sweater-as-a-scarf.” Once reserved for eighties preppy elitists (and the painfully confused bloggers that worship them) Della Valle’s version takes a neutral colored sweater, probably cashmere considering the number of zeroes in his bank account, and tosses it on top of a suit. It’s Della Valle’s go-to kit for soccer (or football if you happen to be from the man’s homeland) matches, proving that it’s an easy way to tone-down the formality of suit as you step outside the office. Of course, we can all throw sweaters over us shoulders and emulate Della Valle, but keep in mind, he has the bravado of a billionaire on his side, so tread lightly out there.

A First Look At Elsa Schiaparelli's Paris Apartment

A First Look At Elsa Schiaparelli's Paris Apartment | Le Marche & Fashion | Scoop.it

Welcome to the humble abode of Elsa Schiaparelli, the legendary designer whose Paris fashion house, as you may recall, is in the process of a major revitalization at the nimble hands of Tod’s CEO Diego Della Valle.
While the house has yet to name a creative director, the Times introduced us to the label’s new “face and organizer” Farida Khelfa back in May, and now here she is, ushering you into the eclectic Place Vendôme interior of the hallowed halls where Schiap once showed pieces like lobster dresses and lamb-cutlet hats to the delight/bewilderment of visiting editors.
The apartment has now been restored and redecorated by Vincent Darré, and now we have our first peek inside. A taste of the covetable décor: gilded mirrors formerly belonging to Yves Saint Laurent (a Christie’s score perhaps?), busts by Schiap’s frequent collaborator Salvador Dalí, and a Fernand Léger rug, clearly housed in another room than the one pictured.
Oh, and see that ‘Shocking’ pink couch? We want it. Please.
