The sixty-year old entrepreneur was born in 1949 in the Marche Region, in the immediate post-war period marked by heavy reconstruction and poverty. At the age of eleven, he started working in local footwear craft workshops where he developed a love of well-made shoes, crafted with painstaking care for every detail. In 1972, he decided to set up his own company, tied to the famiy philosophy and under the banner of quality and innovation. 
Antonio Maurizi brings "Revolution" in the world of elegant men, expressed through the pursuit of new lines and technologies and the conception of very important details which only a trained eye can understand. Novelty, in classy shoes, remains a subtle sign for connoisseurs, a message of taste to be enjoyed with several senses, to be savoured slowly, like good wine that has duly aged. 

The Spernanzoni family has produced high grade quality footwear for several generations, using all the skills and traditions gained from years of experience working as artisans.

The expert handcrafted work, coupled with finding and using the best quality components available, bestows ‘Il Gergo’ branded footwear with artisan characteristics, which are continually being updated and imperceptibly improved upon.

We have consolidated our classical shoe manufacturing over the last few years and extended it to offer ‘Goodyear Welted’ shoes targeted directly to towards the final consumer and in our opinion there is no equal in the market place.
