Pecorino: Marche’s Comeback Kid

Pecorino: Marche’s Comeback Kid | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

When one comes across Pecorino, it’s natural, for an epicure, – even one well versed in Italian wine culture – to think of cheese. But that’s not what this article is about. Pecorino is also a white grape native to the Marche region of Italy, so named, it is presumed, because the sheep of the region (the Italian word pecora means sheep) liked to snack on the grapes. Or maybe it was the sheepherders; nobody knows for sure. [...]

Pergola in Le Marche is renowned for many important attractions but there is only one special event that permit you to enjoy the 3 most important ones: Food and Wine Production, the Gilded Bronzes, and the prized white truffle.
For different 3 Sundays in October, the days 5 - 12 - and 19, Pergola organizes the Fair of the Prized White Truffle and typical local products.
The Municipal Administration has created an edition, the 19th, to maintain the success of the last editions: a mile of exhibitors, products and wines from the little and beautiful town of Pergola alongside with those of the rest of the region and, above all, the diamond of the table: the prized white truffles.
During the fair will be open the museum that exhibits the only group of statues in the world in gilded bronze from the Roman era come to the present day: over a ton of gold and bronze.

Le Marche Wines in London | Rossodisera: Deal of the Month: April

Le Marche Wines in London | Rossodisera: Deal of the Month: April | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Thanks to the great success it has during the last month promotion we decided to keep the white Veronica on promotion this month too and to match it with the red Moroder.
Both wines are organic and comes from two wineries one in the south and one in the center of Le Marche region of Italy. The white Veronica is from Cantina Le Caniette near Ascoli Piceno, in the south part of the region, while the red Aion is from Cantina Moroder near Ancona, in the central part of Le Marche but close to the coast. This two part of the region are both very well know for their tradition in wine making which is dated back of centuries until the Roman period, and for some particular and very local variety like Rosso Conero from Ancona and Pecorino from Ascoli. Have You Heard of Ascoli Piceno? A "Secret" Spot In Italy

Have You Heard of Ascoli Piceno? A "Secret" Spot In Italy | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Could Ascoli Piceno be Italy's best kept secret? While gaggles of visitors flock to Rome and Tuscany, only a savvy few have explored Ascoli Piceno in the Le Marche region. In fact, the NY Times actually deemed Ascoli Piceno "the new Tuscany." I was recently invited to attend a get-to-know Ascoli Piceno event at the International Culinary Center in NYC and I am very intrigued by this town of towers (more than 50) just 2 hours from Rome that offers beaches, mountains, fine food & wine, and so much more. If you are visiting Italy, here are a few reasons to add Ascoli Piceno to your itinerary.

Location: Italy's Le Marche region is bordered on the east by the Adriatic Sea and Ascoli Piceno is the southernmost province. Ascoli Piceno has a population of about 60,000 people...

The best grapes are kept and dried in special rooms, the rest, instead, is pressed at the moment of the grape harvest and it is put in steel tanks for the first fermentation.
After 2 month also the dried grapes are pressed for the second fermentation. The two parts, that are not completely fermented, are finally positioned in autoclave to allow the third fermentation.

Discover le Marche through wines and EVOOs: Le Marche nel Bicchiere 2015

Discover le Marche through wines and EVOOs: Le Marche nel Bicchiere 2015 | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

It is available in the book shops the seventh edition of the publication "Le Marche nel Bicchiere 2015," the guide - realized by the Associazione Sommelier Marche (Le Marche Sommelier Association) with the Regional support. Year after year, this guide has reached its prestige among similar specialized publications. The already wide range of information and updates about the wine scenery of the Marche region, extremely rich and varied in terms of food and wine, has been enriched in the 2015 edition by a section of mono-variety extra virgin olive oil, the gold of Le Marche and an attentive  english translation. This publication can be used for a personal discovery of the wineries of the territory.

Mariano Pallottini's insight:

Technical details
They contain a brief description of the firms, the tasting report on their two selected wines and a mention of the other wines produced.

Tastings
They have been carried out blindly by the AIS Marche Tasting Panel, coordinated by the tireless Giannetto Pergolotti, following the methodology and the wine testing card used by the ltalian Association of Sommeliers. it provides an assessment of each wine together with a final score expressed in points out of 100. The panel give a specific organoleptic analysis for each tasted wine and suggest a dish to be combined with.
There is also an indication concerning: type, grapes, alcohol content and an indicative sale price for each wine, which is declared by the producers themselves.

The 50 excellences
The Woodpecker’ is the symbol of the
Marche Region, which testifies the great bond with the territory, it means excellence. That’s why that symbol has been assigned to the wines that have achieved the maximum score and which have also particularly impressed the Tasting Panel for their qualitative aspect.

Piggybank
An interesting parameter for the consumer is the positive price/quality ratio, which is indicated in the guidebook with the symbol of a piggybank. This ratio is calculated using a specific algorithm that takes into account the price of the wine declared by the producer and the qualitative assessment resulting from the professional tastings. The data obtained are further parameterized to the overall quality of the analyzed samples, making the result an actual mirror of the importance of the regional production.

English
Almost all texts of this guidebook have an English translation in order to make it useful to a larger number of users.

Le Marche Wines in UK: Armit Wines presents La Staffa Winery

Le Marche Wines in UK: Armit Wines presents La Staffa Winery | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Lying at 442m above sea level, in the heart of the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi appellation, is La Staffa. Here two appellations of the well-known Verdicchio are produced, Castelli di Jesi and Matelica. Castelli di Jesi wines have created the area's reputation for Verdicchio as a drinkable wine of refreshing simplicity with an affordable pricetag.

The estate stretches over 230 ha, 20 km outside the town of Jesi and benefits from clay-sandy soil and favorable microclimate conditions. The winery was founded by Mario Baldi in 1983 with the support of oenologist Umberto Trombelli, when he cultivated vineyards on most of his land, paying particular attention to the Verdicchio varietal. 2009 Azienda Agricola Bucci Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore, $20
The Bucci name is highly regarded in the Marche, and for good reason when they turn out as lovely a wine as this Verdicchio from the vaunted Castelli di Jesi region. Marked by a clean, lively acidity and a floral nose, it's a dry, well balanced wine with a slightly, pleasingly bitter note.
