From Senigallia, Street artist Blu doesn't only paint murals, he also creates very involved and impressive video projects that require painting lots of frames for a single piece.

Our local history is, however, more ancient than Romans, it began around the 9th century b.C. with the Picenes. According to the greek historian Strabo (that lived most part of his life in Rome), at the beginning of the Iron age the Picenes moved in our lands and the whole Marches from the Sabina Region, that nowadays is the province of Rieti. The confirmation of this fact comes from the finding in 1973 of the Penne S. Andrea epigraphs written in picene language, in which the Picenes define themselves SAFINUS SAFINAS TUTAS, that is Sabines of the Sabine community. During that migration, tells Strabo, they were led by a bird sacred to the god Mars: the woodpecker, that is PICUS, thus Picenes.

Lazzaro Morelli, the worker at the threshold of God

Lazzaro Morelli, the worker at the threshold of God | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Sculptor Lazzaro Morelli was born on this day in 1608 in Ascoli Piceno. After training with his father in Florence, Lazzaro moved to Rome to join the studio of sculptor Francois Duquesnoy. He later became assistant to Gianlorenzo Bernini, working for him until Bernini’s death in 1680. Bernini entrusted a number of important projects to Morelli, including the Chair of St. Peter, the majority of the travertine statues carved for Piazza San Pietro,  the statue of Truth and the shroud on the tomb of Alexander VII, and the angel holding a scourge on the Ponte Sant’Angelo.  [...]

Mariano Pallottini's insight:

He is said to have sculpted the horse and the lion for Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza Navona. Lazzaro also sculpted the statue of Benignity for the tomb monument of Clement X in St. Peter's.  He also completed some of the saints in the roof-line of the external colonnades of Piazza San Pietro. He also participated in the decoration of the church of San Pietro Martire in Ascoli Piceno. Morelli also designed the aedicule outside the church of San Francesco in Piazza del Popolo of Ascoli Piceno. Set against an external wall, it was an altar that could be used by the condemned as they were led to execution.
