Montelparo Le Marche: International frame drums festival 2014

Montelparo Le Marche: International frame drums festival 2014 | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

28 may - 1 june 2014 Montelparo, IT  Now in its fifth edition, the festival "FRAME DRUMS ITALIA" is placed since its founding as the benchmark level Italian and slowly even at international level, relative to the level of teaching and training offered by its team of teachers, about the vast and varied world of FRAME DRUMS, and all forms of art and culture related to them.
The main aim of the festival is to provide, in a comfortable environment of rare beauty, a unitary and highly theoretical and practical training in relation to the practice of Frame Drums, thanks to a close knit team of teachers known internationally for the quality of their artistic proposal.
A true "full immersion", in the splendor of the hills of the Marche, accompanied by good food and local wine.

Mariano Pallottini's insight:

Frame Drums Italy is an International Festival born with the aim of providing its participants a broad view on the study and practice of frame drums in relation to both the traditional and modern musical languages in which they are applied. In addition to this, the Festival features some high-interest activities for both the performers and teachers wishing to broaden their instruments possibilities, such as the scenical use of drums in theatrical settings as well as their use in music-therapy. All of this will take place for four days in the beautiful italian countryside of Marche, more precisely in the charming medieval town of Montelparo, where a nice ex-monastery will host the event as usual.

Martin Wind Quartet & Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana: Turn Out the Stars

Martin Wind Quartet & Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana: Turn Out the Stars | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Has an artist ever been characterized as a hopeful romantic? If not, then let us nominate Martin Wind, not as hopeless, but a bullish and inspiring romantic. His quartet and the 36- piece Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana tribute to pianist Bill Evans Turn Out The Stars marries his talents, both as a jazz bassist/bandleader and orchestral arranger.
Recorded live at the Teatro Rossini in Pesaro, Italy, Wind's quartet includes his regular partners, saxophonist Scott Robinson and pianist Bill Cunliffe, plus drummer Joe LaBarbera, who was Bill Evans' drummer in the pianist's final trio (1978-1980). This homage to Evans is enhanced by the gorgeous and passionate arrangements Wind wrote for conductor Massimo Morganti's orchestra. [...]

Planet Opera: Finding Summer Opera Off The Beaten Path

Planet Opera: Finding Summer Opera Off The Beaten Path | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

With many opera houses soon shutting their doors for the summer, if they have not done so already, those of us who love the art form must look elsewhere. The Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in London will be presenting two monumental works, Berlioz’s Les Troyens and Verdi’s Otello, soon in the run-up to the Olympic games. Munich’s Bavarian State Opera is, as always, an unrivaled venue every July. Good opera will be available in Paris as well.

In the United States, apart from the always-excellent Santa Fe Opera and the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, NY, which has been ascendent recently under the leadership of Francesca Zambello, there are other worthy destinations.

There are other worthy festivals off the beaten path that merit your attention because they maintain a charming local flavor that is hard to find at the major destinations.

Two of my favorite lesser-known festivals are, of course, in Italy. One is in Macerata in the central region of Le Marche. This city is one’s idea of what an Italian hill town is, complete with churches, piazzas, great food and wine, and an opera festival. This one takes place in the Sferisterio, a 200-year old semi-circular stadium with a high wall that was once used for handball (above). The wall makes for superb acoustics and the productions are grand. This year, on four weekends from July 20 to August 12, you can see La Traviata, La Bohéme and Carmen.

Proud of Le Marche: Giovanni Allevi "the great" from Ascoli Piceno | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Giovanni Allevi is a really talent person and very well estimated in his land of origin, Le Marche: he maintains an impressive career in music and continues to distinguish himself in the field of philosophy. Born in Ascoli Piceno on 1969, Allevi pursued an education in music, earning high marks in piano and composition but he, also, graduated cum laude with a Ph.D in philosophy, with a thesis titled The Emptiness of Modern Physics. Allevi performs in key locations through the U.S., Europe, and Asia (in South Korea he has a great succes), as well as lecture regularly on philosophy and music. Country Music Le Marche Style - Paul Aster and the Fellows

Country Music Le Marche Style - Paul Aster and the Fellows | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Strange as though it might seem, Italy does have quite a vibrant, and growing, country music scene. You never know, the next Johnny Cash or Shania Twain might be an Italian. Someone like Paul Aster, perhaps? You can hear some of his country music here folks.

Paul Aster is the stage name of Italian country singer Fabrizio Pollastrelli. Born in the northern Italian Aosta Valley area, Pollastrelli/Aster now lives down in Fano in Italy’s Le Marche region. Last year he played at the Picenum Country festival in Ascoli Piceno in the Le Marche region. [...]

Le Marche Music from XV century

From an extraordinary manuscript, heart-shaped, found in the Oliveriana Library in Pesaro. It dates back to the XVth century. We have no idea who wrote these wonderful pages of music; a wayfarer, a poet in love, a prince perhaps? Why? And what were these scores used for? What secrets does this mysterious book still hide today? This is the theme of the hand-written scores in the thin watermark of the heart. It has been divulged "ad libitum" in the hall of the Metropolitan Museum in New York that preserves the "studiolo" of Gubbio of the Duke Federico da Montefeltro.

Saturnino: "Le Marche musician’s musician"

Saturnino: "Le Marche musician’s musician" | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Music fans and critics consider Saturnino (Ascoli Piceno, 1969) one of the best electric bass players on the international scene. So well respected and known is he in his native Italy that it is sufficent to just call him “Saturnino” and everyone will know to whom you refer.  Saturnino made his solo debut in 1995 with Testa di basso, an album that showcases his instrumental skills, compositional invention and eclecticism. The album was a success both with critics and the public, and the historic American label Verve included him (the only Italian artist) in their catalogue. He works as bassist and co-writer with top-selling hit Italian artists Lorenzo Jovanotti from 1991. Together they recorded eight albums...
