Up until the early 1800s the village was called Roccacontrada and its urban layout conveys the idea of a fortified stronghold, solid and safe atop a mountain. In the Medieval era this fortress dominated a vast territory that included a great number of castles, many of which still exist to the present day, well cared for and retaining their ancient splendor, such as Nidastore, Palazzo, Avacelli, Piticchio, to name a few. From the heights of its position, the castled town looked down on the gentle hills which cascade all the way to the sea. At one time this village prided itself on a very active artistic and cultural life which counted literary academies, pictorial arts schools and men of letters. Signs of this erstwhile vitality can still be found today in the paintings of Luca Signorelli and Ercole Ramazzani and the polychrome ceramics by Giovanni della Robbia. The Archaeological Museum conserved the remarkable remains of the Conelle settlements; these are the remaining traces of ancient settlements that date back to over five thousand years ago and they include ceramics and pottery, funeral urns and some bronze objects from a later era.

Sassoferrato is quite a place. There are lots of things to see and do in the little village in the little-touristed Marche Region of Italy. Just outside Sassoferrato is the Abbey of Santa Croce, only one of the 18 of the Ancona province and one of the remaining 56 of Le Marche Region
It glistens on the eastern side of central Italy, bordered on the western side by the Appenines, Umbria and Tuscany and on the east by the Adriatic Sea.
Tiny townships perch on the many hilltops crowned by medieval castles. Larger towns in the valleys house incredible architecture and many museums and art galleries of great interest.

Our local history is, however, more ancient than Romans, it began around the 9th century b.C. with the Picenes. According to the greek historian Strabo (that lived most part of his life in Rome), at the beginning of the Iron age the Picenes moved in our lands and the whole Marches from the Sabina Region, that nowadays is the province of Rieti. The confirmation of this fact comes from the finding in 1973 of the Penne S. Andrea epigraphs written in picene language, in which the Picenes define themselves SAFINUS SAFINAS TUTAS, that is Sabines of the Sabine community. During that migration, tells Strabo, they were led by a bird sacred to the god Mars: the woodpecker, that is PICUS, thus Picenes.

The white truffle season here in Le Marche lasts from early October to December and attracts a lot of attention as it is the only time when the prized white truffle (Tuber Magnatum Pico) is available.. Originally pigs were used to seek out the truffles but, as they have such a strong liking to them, truffle dogs are now trained and used for the same task to ensure the precious find remains uneaten on discovery.
The white truffle, or tartufo bianco, can be located in many areas in le Marche

This is the story of a project that slowly rescue, restore and rebuild the amazing medieval Castello dei Pecorari deep in the heart of the white truffle region of Le Marche in Italy.
The castle, which is on the border of Marche, Tuscany and Umbria, was once owned by the Ubaldini family and for centuries was part of a series of castles and watch-towers that acted as a communications network to the Castello Brancaleone in nearby Piobbico. The castle was last inhabited in the 1930s, before it was allowed to fall into its current ruined state. The intent is a sympathetic and authentic restoration of this castle back to its orginal structure, but with the likely usage being converted into a small luxury spa hotel.

You can have a taste of Colorado in central Italy, in the Mt. Sibillini National Park. The place is called "Le lame rosse" (the red blades) and it is near the nice Lake of Fiastra, and it can be reach with an easy 1 hour hike.
This barren landscape appears very unexpected at the end of the trail, which runs under the bush.
The pinnacles can be up to 50 meters high.
Such types of rocks formations are very unusual in Italy.
The purpose of the exhibition is to show a collection of works by Vittore Crivelli, his brother Carlo and other painters, who worked during the second half of the 15th century, in the little towns of the Marches.
The exhibition “Vittore Crivelli: from Venice to the Marches”, just one year later than the important exhibition on Carlo Crivelli in the art-gallery of the city of Brera, is going to show the figure of Vittore Crivelli in the Marches, the region where both artists worked and lived. The event is connected to the important exhibitions dedicated to the 15 th century in the Marches , which have been shown in the towns of San Severino Marche, Camerino and Fabriano in the last ten years. It will be also devoted to the great art historian: Pietro Zampetti. The exhibition is very important to value the cultural area in the Appenines, where rich manufacturing centers, like Sarnano created an original and recognizable “self Renaissance”.
