A beautiful medieval city in the province of the Marches, Ascoli Piceno is an unspoiled provincial capital, enjoying much of the cultural richness and vibrancy of larger cities, while preserving the charm and authenticity of a medieval city off the usual tourist itinerary.

It is a piece of the real Italy that few foreigners ever see, and provides participants with an authentic Italian experience, while still keeping them well connected to national and European transportation networks. [...]

Visso: Art in the area of the earthquake in Le Marche | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

No, art is not eternal. (This has become my mantra). The seismic activity in Italy since August 24, 2016 has affirmed that for us. Again and again. The strongest tremor of all – the 6. 5 quake at 7 41 a.m on October 30. 2016 – brutally gouged the rich artistic patrimony of southeastern mountain Umbrian hill towns – Norcia, Casteulluccio, Preci – as well as hill towns in the Macerata province of the Marches region. Visso is one. [...]

Visso, Le Marche, loses "The Infinite"... temporarily | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

The 19th-century manuscripts of one of Italy’s greatest poets and intellects, Giacomo Leopardi, will be transferred to Bologna after two big earthquakes wreaked havoc on the small central Italian town that houses the works, raising fears that they could be damaged.

The mayor of Bologna, Virginio Merola, announced that his city would take charge of the precious documents, including manuscripts of Leopardi’s poem L’Infinito, or The Infinite, as well as five sonnets and more than a dozen letters. The manuscripts have been kept in a museum in the Palazzo dei Governatori in Visso, a town that sustained substantial damage in the earthquakes on Wednesday. [...]

Dolphin Project in Le Marche Region: Area for Care and Protection of Marine Life | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Dolphin Project Italia has offered to take the Finland Four. Even their marine life rescue center is not really a dolphin sanctuary, it could become one pretty easily. This is a newly-formed group in the area of Sirolo, Italy. It’s known as “The Pearl of the Adriatic.”
I was there recently to help them find a suitable seaside location in a national park. The location we chose will work fine for the rescue and rehabilitation of aquatic life in the Adriatic Sea. Primarily, dolphins, turtles and seabirds.
There are also about 300 bottlenose dolphins in the area. They live in ten pods with about 30 dolphins in each pod. Sometimes they get into trouble and need help — same with turtles and seabirds. Dolphin Project Italia was set up to deal with this situation. Rehabilitation and release back into the pristine Adriatic Sea.
The location chosen for the center could also accommodate four or five captive dolphins. It wasn’t set up as a “retirement center” but it could accommodate the Finland Four. Portable recycled fish farm apparatus is common in Europe. [...]

Halloween-themed sets will lit every corner of the village, which is enclosed by well-preserved 14th-century walls. Active free trial in the University of Camerino

Active free trial in the University of Camerino | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

The University of Camerino is a university located in Camerino, Italy. The University of Camerino is the best university of Italy among those with fewer than 10,000 students, according to the Guida Censis Repubblica 2011 and 2012 ranking. It claims to have been founded in 1336 and was officially recognized by the Pope in 1727. It is organized into five faculties.

Writer and jurist Cino from Pistoia, living in Marche in the years 1319–21, and in Camerino in the spring of 1321, described the territory as teeming with law schools. Camerino became a center of learning by year 1200, offering degrees in civil law, canonical law, medicine, and literary studies. Upon the request of Gentile III da Varano, Gregory XI issued the papal edict of 29 January 1377, addressed to the municipality and to the people, authorizing Camerino to confer (after appropriate examination) bachelor and doctoral degrees with apostolic authority.

Mariano Pallottini's insight:

Camerino has been affected by the earthquake but it must not succumb to fear as its ancient and prestigious University.

Le Marche among the Best Travel Destinations for 2016 | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Beloved of the chattering classes every summer, much of Italy is often overlooked as passé by serious travellers, but why not try a new region which offers beautiful beaches, picturesque countryside and exquisite art, but without the crowds.  Halfway up the eastern side of Italy's boot, Le Marche offers a relatively new idea in Italy, British-style bed & breakfast, with low rates from around €69 a night for a double.  With 14th century villages set in beautiful countryside and stunning beaches such as Due Sorelle (considered one of Italy's best), this is a must-see destination.
Medieval Urbino has some of the finest examples of renaissance art in its Palazzo Ducale, and there are modern art treasures to be found in contemporary galleries such as Il Conventino in tiny Monteciccardo, and unexpected but wonderful examples of modern sculpture, such as that inside a 15th-century tower in Cagli.
