It is named after the Roman martyr whose body was brought here by monks in 930. Her magnificent marble sarcophagus, supported on two pillars, stands in the crypt of the parish church, at the far end of the town.
Built in 890 by the Abbat of Farfa Pietro I, it became the strategic centre for all the farfense possessions in Marche. The Abbat Raffredo, in around 930, brought in the village the relics of “Vergine e Martire Vittoria” to protect them from Saracen raids. The relics of Vergine Vittoria, who was a member of a noble roman family, are still preserved in a marble urn in the sanctuary of Collegiata....
