What Petritoli, in Le Marche, means for the Wedding in Italy and vice versa

What Petritoli, in Le Marche, means for the Wedding in Italy and vice versa | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

It was Jennifer and Shawn’s dream to get married in Petritoli, a charming hilltop town in the Marche region of Italy opposite Florence and Rome. They fell in love with Petritoli on a visit there, and decided it was the perfect place for their wedding- luckily Jennifer is a wedding planner herself which made organising the celebration so far from their home in Canada easier. [...]

Mariano Pallottini's insight:

Petritoli is an amazing place to get married! Perched up high on the hills, with cobbled streets, flaking painted shutters, middle aged buildings telling stories of a fortified town, the clock tower presiding over the town, standing, with 150 steps to the top, as a symbol of fertility, not to mention the breathtaking distant views to the Adriatic Sea.
The wedding was so special, the ceremony took place inside the theatre, with its stunning painted ceiling. The bride and groom then strolled up through the town admired by delighted locals. The celebrations proceeded on the stunning Piazza. Guests enjoyed sparkle wines and antipasti in the early evening sun, then a long and delicious meal under a cupola of stars. The dances took place underneath the clock tower in a magical atmophere.

We are very excited to be holding this course at a fantastic new venue for Helicon Arts – the spectacular Palazzo Mannocchi in Petritoli in the Marche region of Italy.

We have exclusive use of the Palazzo, set in the heart of the delightful village of Petritoli. Built in the 17th century, this historic building is adorned with frescoed ceilings, antique furniture, and has thirty-two well-appointed bedrooms. There are two swimming pools, two hot tubs, and several terraces, all of which enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. There is no shortage of secluded corners in which to relax and unwind.

A Wedding in Petritoli, Le Marche

A Wedding in Petritoli, Le Marche | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

We met everyone at the villa and then we all boarded a bus to Petritoli for the wedding ceremony. Overlooking the rolling hills of the Le Marche region on a nice grassy courtyard area outside the town hall it was the perfect setting
It was incredibly hot outside but luckily there was a nice shaded area to sit for the ceremony. The ceremony was in both Italian and English, kindly translated for the majority of us who didn't speak Italian. After the ceremony we headed back on the bus to the villa for the reception. In true Italian style we were treated to a delicious 9 course meal including Pizza, Pasta, delicious breads and cheeses, sorbets, roast pork and even 2 cakes for dessert. The food just kept on coming and just when you thought you couldn't eat anymore there was another delicious course to eat. There were some great speeches and lots of laughs. The setting for the reception was so unique and I loved the way there was so much space for everyone to move around and to chat with different people throughout the night. It's not often you go to a wedding and get to see people you didn't know before multiple days throughout the celebration. [...]

Life in Southern Le Marche | Markets

Life in Southern Le Marche | Markets | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Last Sunday we went to the market in Rubbianello, a small valley town about 5k from Petritoli

The market people travel from place to place so you often see the same stalls in different towns. The stalls are varied; don’t think food with tempting pastries, pasta and other delights. These markets are functional, mostly clothes, household items, fruit and vegetables, flowers, shoes, haberdashery.

It’s a time for all the locals to passeggiare stroll and chattare chat to friends, take a coffee and browse the stalls. There’s lots of laughter and of course a great deal of gesticulating. It often seems when the Italians speak that they are in the throws of a massive argument as voices are raised and hands fly in every direction but usually it’s friendly banter, probably about football or husbands.

We bumped into a couple of people we know and did our own bit of chatting and we saw ‘our honey man’ from Petritoli. His small table was heavy with boxes of miele in favo honeycomb, several jars of different varieties of miele, honey, also beeswax and small jars of pollen. [...]

Petritoli in Le Marche

Petritoli was founded by the Farfense monks around the year 1000 with the name of Castel Rodolfo, maybe from the name of a feudal monk.
Petritoli is a very busy place and you will be amazed by the liveliness of the tourist initiatives, with its festivals, its street markets and the wide offer of cultural competitions and events which range from music to theatre.
The town is perched on a hilltop 358 meters above sea level in the Fermo province of Le Marche in central Italy between the Adriatic Sea and the Appenine range. The village is 16km away from the coast and the delightful seaside resort of Pedaso. It is 35 minutes away from the Sibillini mountains.
The village follows the typical pattern of this region with the main square, Piazza Rocca, at the top housing the 40 metre high clock tower (1831) and the oldest properties (the original monastic centre), and the rest of the yellow brick village winding down below against the rock face.
Teatro dell'Iride (1875) has recently been renovated and now holds regular concerts, plays and other performances. Of the numerous churches, the two most interesting are the 14th-15th century Chiesa di San Prospero and the Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Martiri with its unusual 17th century frescoes set out in 15 octagonal scenes, and rare organ, work of the renowned Callido.

Festa De Le Cove... harvest festival Italian style...

Festa De Le Cove... harvest festival Italian style... | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

There are an inordinate number of festas (street parties/festivals) and sagras (usually to do with eating) happening all over Italy for most of the summer months. Wherever you go there will be people eating, dancing and drinking in small towns and villages all of them offering something traditional and steeped in history. In Petritoli we have several of these and the biggest is the Festa De Le Cove. It’s a harvest festival celebration of sorts. A whole weekend of fun. [...]

Mariano Pallottini's insight:

Great article, here one good highlight: "The town is beautifully decorated and each year there’s a different theme, this year it was poppies and sunflowers. At the roundabouts and road junctions they put life size dummies made of straw"

English Tea Party in Le Marche

English Tea Party in Le Marche | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Last weekend saw all the ex-pats all over the world busily celebrating in their own way and we too in Petritoli decided to fly the flag with the British spirit! A few of us got together to bake cakes, make sandwiches, sausage rolls and we even had jelly and blancmange. It was just a little English tea party but we invited a few Italians along for the ride and they thoroughly enjoyed themsleves even if they didn't really like the jelly and blancmange!
