Frederick II – Barbarossa was born in a tent in the market square of Jesi on the 26th December 1194. The reason he was born in a tent was because his mother the Empress Constance was at that time, ...
Mariano Pallottini's insight:

This author of this article asks us why Italians don’t take a sandwich for lunch and eat a full meal at home or in one of the many restaurants. Good or not, maybe this is the base of the long life expectation the Region proudly shows to the world. Perhaps an Emperor's luxury not destined to last.

Palio in Jesi

Palio in Jesi | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

We all waited for the procession through the town to begin. Medieval groups from around the region had come to Jesi to show off their costumes, researched and re-created. There were also a number of percussion groups.
When the procession did start, it was quite impressive after all. An awful lot of people had prepared themselves for this event. The drumming was loud and impressive, the costumes very pretty indeed. [...]

Iesi (Jesi in Italian): The City of a Holy Emperor and Divine Wine

Iesi (Jesi in Italian): The City of a Holy Emperor and Divine Wine | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

The old centre of Iesi is surrounded by fortified walls that were build in the 14th century to replace the Roman ones.  The famous white wine in this area is, of course, the fantastic Verdecchio dei Castelli di Jesi. The best place to taste the local wines is the Regional wine cellar (Enoteca Regionale di Jesi) situated in the Baroque palace of Balleani.  The legend has it that Frederick II, the most powerful Holy Roman Emperor of the Middle Ages, was born in the public square, now named after him. Jesi and its secret rural “museum”

Jesi and its secret rural “museum” | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

In a small café of Jesi, very oldfashioned, rustic, some would say even ugly.. if you go across the first room, you will find a real museum. A museum on how farmers lived in the early 20th century and even earlier. In fact, it’s not really a museum, it’s supposed to be a wine drinking place, but I rarely saw anybody in there. It’s very dark, a bit abandoned.. but still, it’s an amazing thing to see. There you can check out agricultural tools, but also musical instruments, toys of all sorts, bycicles, wooden benches, etc.

So the point of this post is to point out how rural life has a meaning in Marche, a region that lived almost exclusively on agriculture for several centuries up to the 50′s. Jesi has secrets everywhere for you to find out as this little café, where nobody would really enter unless they know what’s hiding in there. The owners don’t seem to have an idea of how precious that place is...

Le Marche Wines in UK: Armit Wines presents La Staffa Winery

Le Marche Wines in UK: Armit Wines presents La Staffa Winery | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Lying at 442m above sea level, in the heart of the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi appellation, is La Staffa. Here two appellations of the well-known Verdicchio are produced, Castelli di Jesi and Matelica. Castelli di Jesi wines have created the area's reputation for Verdicchio as a drinkable wine of refreshing simplicity with an affordable pricetag.

The estate stretches over 230 ha, 20 km outside the town of Jesi and benefits from clay-sandy soil and favorable microclimate conditions. The winery was founded by Mario Baldi in 1983 with the support of oenologist Umberto Trombelli, when he cultivated vineyards on most of his land, paying particular attention to the Verdicchio varietal. The public square in Jesi where a king was born

The public square in Jesi where a king was born | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

The Holy Roman Emperor Federico II, who became King of Sicily and one of the most powerful men in Europe in the Middle Ages, was born on a public square in Jesi in the province of Ancona.
People sleep late on Sundays in Jesi. The public squares are virtually deserted apart from a man sitting on a bench with his laptop and stone lions spewing water around the fountain. There is not a lot to see. Which may explain why an inscription in the pavement catches my attention. It says: ‘In questa piazza nasce il 26 dic. 1194 L’imepratore Federico II di Svevia’ followed by a full stop tent. [...]

Dreaming place for all tea lovers in Le Marche: Cose di Tè, Jesi

Dreaming place for all tea lovers in Le Marche: Cose di Tè, Jesi | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it
Tea tasting is an incredibly fascinating experience, but still not very popular. Actually in our culture the taste and smell are little stimulated and consequently not very much developed.
Therefore, to appreciate the sweetness of a Chinese green Tea or compare Darjeelings flushed in different periods seems to be a very difficult exercise. But as soon as you start practicing tasting and “feeling” the Tea, progress is often very quick and unexpected. Then the pleasure of a good cup of Tea is beyond compare!
That’s why Cose di Tè has created an aTèlier, a place to discover and develop the “sense for Tea”.
Tea is an open door on the passions and culture worldwide. Cose di Tè then is the right place to meet Tea lovers and discover the art of Tea through the tradition of the countries in which it’s still a ritual.

Le Marche Legend of Calcio: Roberto Mancini

Le Marche Legend of Calcio: Roberto Mancini | Le Marche another Italy | Scoop.it

Roberto Mancini was born 27th November 1964 in the town of Jesi, of the Province of Ancona, in Le Marche Region.
This small town in central Italy was the place which saw Roberto first fall in love with the beautiful game.
As a boy, his only two interests were football and religion. He was a committed Roman Catholic, and as such honoured his faith by being an altar boy at his local place ofworship, the church of San Sebastian.
His football club Aurora Calcio was next door, and a young Roberto Mancini was often found training or playing games there during the early seventies.
His two passions once famously clashed when Roberto left midway through his First Holy Communion to join his teammates for their Sunday fixture. The initial reaction of his family was dismay, until the priest conducting affairs informed them it was he who instructed the young Mancini to get his boots, as his team was 2-0 down.
These were the humble beginnings of a man who would go on to make over 500 appearances in Serie A, inspiring Sampdoria to domestic and European glory, something they hadn't achieved before, and haven't since.
Bologna were the first to see Mancini's talent and signed him at the age offourteen. He was handed his debut at the age of sixteen in September of 1981. Mancini scored nine goals in thirty-one appearances for the Rossobù), although his first season proved to be his last.
Sampdoria saw something special in the young forward and brought him to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in the summer of1982. Little did they knowjust what great success he would bring with him....
