It must be disappointing with the dearth of trip reports for Italy as it tends to get written off as a birdless country. This is simply not true expecially in Le Marche. However, birding in Italy is not easy and definitely requires perseverance and good field craft; birds are generally shy and flighty. It is possible to see a nice selection of Mediterranean species in mid July which is certainly not the best month of the year. Early starts are advisable when there is shade and it is cooler – birds are fairly active until about 10am but with temperatures regularly over 40°C by midday things can really tail off. [...]
