Last June, 20 year-old Indiana University student Lauren Spierer was out partying with friends at a local sports bar when she simply disappeared. The classmate she was seen with on a security camera that night says he was punched in the face and woke up in his own bed the next morning with no recollection of what happened. Spierer’s purse and keys were found in the street en route to a friend’s apartment. Her parents have spent the last year trying to no avail to get someone to come forward and reveal what they know. In a recent interview, Charlene Spierer conceded her daughter may not be found alive.
The posters asking for information about Spierer’s disappearance are still in the store windows in her hometown of Scarsdale, New York. “I don’t have the heart to take them down,” said one business owner. “That’s like giving up and I can’t do that knowing Lauren’s parents are waiting to hear what happened to their daughter every day.”
