It's a great party trick and useful for circus performers but scientists said this week that learning to juggle can cause changes in areas of the adult brain.

Juggling Has helped me focus.  I use juggling moves in my Play-Ha-ttension workshop with children and adults. Start with One ball thrown in an arch from one hand to the other.Have a ball!

Let's focus on the positive i say. I  am now able to laugh at the many embarrasing moments I had as left-handed kid and still have. Trying to cut a straight edge, or painfully keeping my elbow from jabbing into the person sitting to my right at a dinner table was always good for a laugh.  

The Advantages .....

Sports

Left-handed people have an advantage in many sports. Because right-handers make up the vast majority of the population, both lefties and righties are used to facing right-handed opponents. That means when a right-handed person faces a southpaw, he won't be used to his oponent's style. In sports like tennis, boxing, fencing and baseball, this can give a significant advantage to the lefty.

Intelligence

Left-handedness has been linked to enhanced mental abilities. A study conducted by Dr. Alan Searleman of St. Lawrence University found there are more left-handed geniuses than right-handed ones. Lefties also tend to be better at problem-solving skills and have larger vocabularies than average.

Paycheck

Left-handedness may lead to a better paycheck, at least if you are a man. According to The Washington Post, male lefties who have gone to college earn 13 percent more money than right-handed men. While the cause of this curious trend is not known, the wage difference is too significant to dismiss as anomalous.

This article sumarizes "laughter therapy" research and outlines the many benfits of laughter. 

"William Fry, M.D., professor of psychiatry at Stanford University Medical School and expert on health and laughter, reports the average kindergarten student laughs 300 times a day. Yet, adults average just 17 laughs a day. Why the difference? Are we too uptight, too tense? Do we take life too seriously? Isn't it time we learned how to relax? We don't stop laughing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop laughing. So, if we want to fly like the angels and share in their happiness, we'll have to follow their example and take ourselves lightly."

Scientists are getting close to proving what yogis have held to be true for centuries -- yoga and meditation can ward off stress and disease.
Laughter YOGA NYC's insight:

Meditation is silencing the mind. When my mind is silent, which it often isn't,  my concentration increases and I experience inner peace in the midst of my turmoil: living in NYC, or for that matter, living in this world. Inner peace is what attracts me and many others to meditation. We can all benefit from it.

 

When I attended Cal Arts in the 1970s, everyone did Tai Chi. You would see people in the halls, in the hills and on mountain tops practicing Tai Chi. It was where I learned about breath and meditation.

 

Today I practice "Chocolate YUM Meditation". I find it easy and fun. And, eating chocolate while meditating supports cardiovascular health by lowering cholesterol and improving blood pressure. 

 

I suggest trying all different types of meditation to see what works for you.
