Should I Invest In SEO Or Social Media?

Should I Invest In SEO Or Social Media? | Latest Updates | Scoop.it

Prospective clients often ask me if they should invest in SEO (search engine optimization) or social media. Their company only has so many marketing dollars to spend, and they want to spend them as wisely as possible. They have heard a lot about both SEO and social media marketing, and know they should probably be doing at least one of them, but they do not understand either one enough to make the decision on their own.

SEO and social are more interdependent than ever. Search engines are using social “signals”, such as “likes”, retweets, and “plus ones” as votes of confidence, similar to the way they look at relevant inbound links.

On the flip side, it is extremely beneficial to have carefully-selected key phrases in your social content, since more and more social media posts are being indexed by search engines. It also helps to have those phrases prevalent in your social posts when users run searches within a social network.

Fujifilm X-Pro 1 Firmware v2.0 Update | Billy Luong from The Fuji Guys

Billy Luong from The Fuji Guys joins Henry's TV host Mark Shannon to describe some of the major improvements that the V2.0 Firmware Update brings to the Fujifilm X-Pro 1. The firmware is available for download as of September 18th, 2012 at 1:00am (EST). Included in the firmware update are improved performance of both autofocus and manual focus functions. Write/Processing speed has been doubled, allowing for the use of faster memory cards, and increasing the speed for playback after shooting. As well, Auto ISO (6400) is enabled, allowing the camera to take advantage of the X-Trans CMOS sensor and automatically switch to ISO 6400 when needed. As Billy mentions in the video, it's best to install the firmware update on your X-Pro 1 body as well as all of your lenses.

Georgian Eye Jewellery c.1790-1820

Georgian Eye Jewellery c.1790-1820 | Latest Updates | Scoop.it

Eye miniatures came into fashion at the end of the 18th century. In France, where eye miniature seems to have originated, the eye as symbol of watchfulness was adopted by the state police for buckles and belts. In Britain it had a role as a love token, with some eye miniatures glistening with a trompe-l’oeil tear, or a diamond set to imitate a tear. Most eye miniatures are unsigned, due to the minuteness of the background, and often the name of the person whose eye is depicted is unknown.

New study: There is enough wind potential on Earth's surface to power human civilization 100 times over

New study: There is enough wind potential on Earth's surface to power human civilization 100 times over | Latest Updates | Scoop.it

At the moment, wind power supplies about 4.1 percent of electric power in the United States. Still a bit player. Yet there’s a whole lot of untapped wind left in the world. Wind whipping through the Great Plains. Wind gusting off the shores. Wind circulating high up in the sky. So what would happen if we tried to harvest all of that wind?

We’d have enough energy to power the world. At least in theory. A new study published this week in Nature Climate Change finds that there’s enough wind potential both on the Earth’s surface and up in the atmosphere to power human civilization 100 times over. Right now, humans use about 18 terawatts of power worldwide. And, technically, the study found, we could extract about 400 terawatts of wind power from the Earth’s surface and 1,800 terawatts of power from the upper atmosphere.

Even the most optimistic near-term projections for wind power, however, tend to be more restrained. In 2008, the U.S. Department of Energy released a comprehensive report estimating that wind power could provide, at most, 20 percent of U.S. electricity by 2030. And for that to happen, the cost of wind power would have to keep plunging, the number of turbines built would have to steadily increase by about 14 percent each year, and utilities would have to build new transmission lines to accommodate the extra energy.

While the world’s political leaders have left the negotiating table again without an agreement to reduce greenhouse gases, the Arctic has greater problems than ever – 75 percent of the sea ice has disappeared.

"The North Pole ice thinning, another over looked issue, has risen to the surface. Over the past 100 years 50-75% of the sea ice has disappeared. Old ice, which is formed over several years, has been replaced with new ice. New ice come and goes through the year it was formed. Travel has been accelerated in the North Pole due to thinner ice. It makes you think about if these circumstances worsen where will it leave the marine life or animals who inhabit this region. What will be the result in the years to come if we continue to over look this issue?"
