I found this article very helpful in determining which foods I should snack on and which foods I should avoid. Junk food is so convenient today that it is easy to forget about your diet. We fail to notice when we are reaching for a sugary snack to satisfy our hunger because we think it will keep us full and energized. In reality, it will only satisfy our hunger for a short amount of time. However, research has proven that healthy alternatives such as whole grains, nuts, and fruits will actually keep us full and focused for longer. In addition to learning about which foods to graze on, I found it really interesting that a trick to eating less was to reduce the size of a plate. I never noticed how much more food we put on a larger plate compared to a smaller plate. I will use the knowledge I gained from this article and apply it to my healthy living strategy in order to make wiser choices in my diet.

In this news article, I have come to conclusion that in this century most Americans will try to avoid cooking. Even though Americans are consciously aware that the food they are eating is not good for them they consume fatty and sugary foods all day. While they feel guilty in the short term they fail to look at what they are doing to their body in the long run. I was appalled when I read 1/4th of the adult population is clinically obese. What is even worse is that they are passing down their bad eating habits onto their children. Rather than preparing a home cooked meal or even taking 15 minutes out of the day to make lunch for their child they would rather buy TV dinners and Lunchables—both extremely low in nutritional value. I think this is a cry for help. Americans need to change their diet immediately if they ever want to live a healthy and long life. Americans have to start thinking of the long term effect of a poor diet before taking that cookie or that last scoop of ice cream.
