In stage four laryngeal cancer, treatment will depend on where the cancer actually is. A total laryngectomy with radiation therapy, radiation therapy with surgery, a clinical trial with radiation therapy, a combination of chemotherapy, radiation therapy with or without a laryngectomy, etc. These are all treatments for stage four laryngeal cancer patients.

A laryngectomy is a removal of the voice box from the neck. If doctors decide to choose this type of cancer a new way of breathing is surgically created.

Another test that doctors use to determine whether the patient has this type of cancer is call a Barium Swallow. Its numerous xrays of the mouth and esophagus. It is a liquid in which the patient swallows that contains barium in it which is a silver white metallic compound. This coats the inside of the body so that xrays are able to be taken.

One type of surgery that is recommended for Laryngeal Cancer is the removing the voice box from the neck. This is called a laryngectomy. If doctors choose this type if surgery a new way of breathing with have to be created. They would take the trachea and connect it to a hole made inside the neck which is called a stoma. The patient will breathe through this hole that is made rather than breathing through the mouth and the nose.
